Growing wild here. It doesn't start blooming until this time of year. it doesn't even start growing until August. About 3' tall. The small blooms look like tiny suns floating in the air. To me, it's charming. The blooms don't open first thing in the morning, it's usually around 11 or 12 when they become noticeable.

I don't know Florida plants but I'd suggest comparing to Coreopsis.
Here are the species that occur in Florida, from USDA Plants:
That screen print may be hard to read, sorry, but you can reproduce the same by doing a "State Search" at USDA Plants, by plugging in "Coreopsis" and checking "Florida": http://plants.usda.gov/checkli...

Could it be Coreopsis leavenworthii? That one is endemic to Florida and found in many parts of the state. I can't see these pictures very clearly but supplying links for comparison:
No. Mine do not have brown centers, mine have yellow centers.

Coreopsis verticillata or whorled tickseed comes the closest but still, it's foliage is wrong & the size of the blooms are wrong. The blooms on mine are small -- 1/2" at the very most. These are small blooms widely spaced on thin wiry stems. As you can see from the photo of the entire plant, there are little to no leaves for the top most 12" before the blooms appear. When you look at them from the slightest distance, the blooms almost appear to be floating in thin air.

So close, so close Stone but the foliage is different.
About this time of day, the rays of the blooms curl under making it sort of a bagel shape.
I'm going to pull one up & bring it inside so I can try to get better photos of the leaves.

I cut one & have some more photos.
The stems are round & stiffly hairy. The leaves are stiffly hairy on both upper & lower surfaces. When I touch the leaves or the stem, my fingers come away tacky. Leaves are alternate.
Not a clear photo at all but you can see how the rays have curled under.

Yes, it looks like we have the same thing stone. So we're both looking for an ID.

Ok.... Turns out that I'd already identified this flower... Posted it and forgot about it...
Croptilion divaricatum (slender scratch daisy) http://stonethegardener.tumblr...
Oh cool stone!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!
My hubs & i were just sitting there yesterday trying to decide what we were going to name them since I couldn't manage to come up with an ID on them. We had decided to call them "Cheerful Lights".
I have to run at the moment but will come back later & add photos to the db.

LOL, I was looking through my Florida Wildflower book yesterday and came across a photo of this plant and remembered someone looking for an ID of a plant that really looked like it but then I forgot to go back and find this thread!
ATP member drdawg (Ken) has a saying below his posts that sure fits me. It reads: "My mind is a lot like the Bermuda Triangle, what goes in is never to be found again!"
