I posted about this in crittergarden's "I started a blog" thread, in Sandbox, but felt it might be worth sharing here also.

I've been distressed by party balloons for years. Odd thing to be distressed by, right? Until you realize what they do to the critters, once we're through playing with them. Even the newer so-called biodegradeable balloons are not significantly better; they take far too long to disintegrate and they're still killers of birds and fish.

I never did think it was a good thing to deliberately release balloons. Along with certain kinds of fireworks...every year I end up finding the remains of aerial fireworks on my property, even though we don't use them. Darn neighbors!

I applaud any effort, small or large, to keep our planet a safer place for all living creatures. Discouraged, but not surprised, by the nasty comments left on the linked post.

Funny how we each have our pet peeves. Mine are dogs in stores and the incorrect use of apostrophes. Neither is earth-shattering, but both put my teeth on edge.

My goodness. Some of the comments were bad mannered. You get professional trolls these days. These trawl looking for sites to say the same thing.

Yes, and anything at all critical of professional sports and the attendant "celebrations" seems to draw such characters out of the woodwork and into action!

But the blog itself is awesome I think! He's doing very fine work.
