Well the day was beautiful and weather is going to be nice for the next week so I decided to get some of my potted seedlings in the ground. The few that are left in pots will probably be over wintered on their sides covered with mulch like I did last winter.

I agree that bareroot daylilies need at least a month before frost to settle in. Now if what you are adding is potted plants, they can be added almost up to frost if "root ball" is left in tack. I often move clumps in late fall but only if I take soil and all. Protecting by mulching also helps.

Lisa, what is the latest date that you replant barerooted plants? I just got my order in from Herbie Phelps. I had hope to have them by the middle of Sept, but that didn't happen. I think they should be fine. Last year I put in 3 from Brown's Ferry in late Oct. We went on vacation in SC for a week and so I had to buy a souvenir!

Teresa,
I like to have barefoot in by mid Sept. Oct 1st at latest. Last winter I lost quite A few, many newly planted. But last winter was no the norm and I actually think I lost most of those in the spring with all the freeze/thaws.

I move around clumps with soil all the way up to ground freezing with very few issues.

That's what I did with my seedlings in pots Lisa. Since it is late in the season I just took the whole soil clump out of the pot and planted it. Usually I separate the seedlings and plant each one individually but it was getting too late. They will have a better chance of surviving if I just plant the whole clump together out of the pot.

I think clumps do much better too. I say they hardly notice the change.

I was hoping to add Laughing with Giraffes, still have that one to go. I wish I could find a trade for it. Angry

Here may be one of my last blooms of the season. I came home late and picked it so I could enjoy it inside. It is Clothed in Glory and still looks good after a light shower today. I sure will miss seeing what is blooming every day Angry
