I'm going to collect ornamental pepper seeds if anyone is interested.

I would love ornamental pepper seeds. Do you have any pictures? I have pink Cockscomb, mixed Rudebckia and Gaillardia that was harvested from my garden this year.

First one is green leafed & the peppers change color . . . cream . . orange . . red.
The second picture is "Black Opal" leaves are black & the peppers are shiny black & round. . . eventually turn red

They are ornamental. The black one gets about 4" higher than the green one.

I need to go out and pull the plants and bring them in to dry.

I like the orange, cream and red peppers. How tall does those get?

Maybe 12-15" tall.

perfect size I have never traded anything on cubits before. I have no idea what the expectations are.

Oh, I'll just dry the seeds out and pack them up. I'll post on here when I am ready to mail them to you. I don't need anything back. I am cutting back on my gardening as I am getting too old to do as much as I used to. Not a problem.

You can have some of my ornamental peppers when the time comes. They are hanging in the garage, drying.

I should have dried our ornamental peppers. We had three varieties this year: Medusa (look like your red/cream ones), Black Pearl, and Marbles, which really did look just like red and yellow marbles. My two boys, 9 and 12, bought them at a farmer's market and planted them, and just had such a blast watching them grow and set fruit this year. They are buried under 3" of snow at the moment.

For someone who used to be a die-hard seed saver, I didn't collect any at all this year. My kids saved more seeds than I did, and unfortunately, they saved the pole beans that none of us liked to eat. LOL I'd always grown bush beans before, and decided to venture into pole beans, since my sons seemed intrigued with them. The firmer texture just wasn't a hit with my guys. The last batch never got picked, and dried on the vine. Now they've got half a coffee can full of seeds for beans that no one liked. Ah, well. Lessons learned.

You can put them in a jar and make them into bean sprouts

Min, you're brilliant! I used to grow alfalfa sprouts at a vegetarian restaurant I worked at, and I'm sure the same techniques would work with bean sprouts!

Angie, I can't find your mom on here. She gave me plants of the pictures I posted here. I saved seeds from her plants. The one is Black Opal and she knows the name of the other one here. She mailed away for those seeds special. Has she not joined here? If not, can you ask her for the name of the other pepper plant. They are so pretty!

I sent her a message, asking her what the names were. I'm fairly certain they are Black Pearl and Medusa, because we ordered seeds together and split the packages. I picked out the Black Pearl, because I was a fan of the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and she picked out the Medusa, because she'd seen them at the Meredith Test Gardens in Des Moines and thought they were neat. We got the seeds from Park Seeds, before their service really tanked.

I am still encouraging her to find her way over here, and sending her links to cubits I think she would enjoy, but she said the organization system is so much harder to figure out.

I tried! I'll let you know when I hear back from her.

Thanks, Angie . . . I have grown Medusa before but . . . for some reason . . . thought these were something different. . . hard to get . . according to your mom.

New things are more challenging for us older folks but now I have gotten comfy with the new and I'm sure you mom will in time. Let me know if she comes up with a name different than Medusa. They sure are beautiful peppers . . both.

Arlene, I heard from my mom this morning. She said the purple ones are Black Pearl, as I thought, and the others are Red Treasures. The Black Pearl are hybrids, and she got some really strange results from the seed she saved, but the Red Treasures did come back true to seed. Sounds like she may decide to look into Cubits after all, and she really liked the sound of attending at GIG at Boone, which isn't too far away for her.

Red Treasure . . . thanks. I can send her Black Pearl (sorry I called it Black Opal; I am sure she is right). Mine volunteered this year and grew true to what she gave me last year.

When she gets over here, point her to this thread and I'll arrange to mail some seeds to her.

I know this is a very old thread but since it is seed harvesting time again I
decided to see if it can be bumped up a little bit. Or at least revived.

Those ornamental peppers are also eatible. But beware of the amount of
capsium in those little things. Just one will really heat up a gallon of chili.

I'd like to do some seed exchanging this fall. I'll even do for postage. I
have hardy passion vine, old fashion trumpet vine, mixed bee pollenated
hollyhocks(you never know what color they will turn out to be), same for
Rose of Sharon seeds, maybe some morning glory seeds that are also
bee pollenated. I probably have more if I go look.
