Betty try a liquid fertilizer like all purpose Miracle-Gro, it did wonders for one of mine that looked pale and wasn't growing that well.

Be careful of the high nitrogen fertilizer like Miricle Grow in that heat. You should better wait until it cools down in the fall before fertilizing.

So that's true for daylilies as well as irises? Good to know, as somewhere along the line I got the impression that daylilies love fertilizer, and the more the better. But since I already used Osmocote I didn't know what to do! I think I'll use the Miracle-Gro liquid again in the spring when it's cooler, on the daylilies as well as the irises as a supplement. This last spring I hadn't gotten my granular fertilizer down in the very early spring like I was supposed to, so I just blasted all the iris with the Miracle-Gro liquid -- and I was very pleased that it seemed to work just as well as the granular and I had a great iris bloom season after all. But in late March-early April it's pretty cool here so I could get away with it.

Daylilies do love fertilizer, much more than iris. And I know the florida growers have routines were the fertilize constantly. But they must water constantly also. For those of us just trying to grow garden flowers, if its too hot, lay off the high nitrogen. I like to use a liquid seaweed fertilizer for summer feeding. Very low nitrogen and full of trace elements. In fact I just did all my daylilies with the Neptunes Liqid Seaweed Fertilizer afew days ago. It really malkes for a great summer pick me up for the daylilies.. I use it on the roses too. I guess I could use it on my iris also.

Fantastic, Rita! I wanted to ask you if you managed to end up with WESTBOURNE TID BIT. They are all terrific, especially that W. KEG OF DYNAMITE! I was outbid on my original bid for WESTBOURNE SPICE OF MY EYE, and at that point I just decided to leave it alone as I'd suddenly won quite a few. I did win WESTBOURNE A DENTISTS DELIGHT and WESTBOURNE MAMA KIRBY'S APRON, though, and I'm a totally happy camper! But I don't have pictures to show, unfortunately...

Good for you Betty. I knew you would get some of the ones you wanted.

I see that Mary Jane doesn't have anything up on the auction this morning but she should start to relist and list more withing a day or two.

I only have pictures to show because I lifted the pictures from the Lily Auction LIstings. California - Sue, these are not my pictures but belong to MJ so please don't take them for the database.

Christine- I saw your bids on some of the ones listed. I have no idea who that Wayne165 is but I did see he had a lot of bids. I didn't realise it was so many though. He bid on two that I bid on but I got them. He really bid alot on W.TID BIT. The opening bid was mine then he bid alot but I bid more at the end.

You have some really nice ones there. Westbournes just have such beautiful colors so who can resist?

Well gee, since Mary Jane has posted both of the ones I just won, I went ahead and pulled off the pictures so I could show my new ones.

WESTBOURNE A DENTISTS DELIGHT - Even though she lists it as a 2011 introduction, inside the description she indicates it is a new one for 2012, plus when I checked the other day it wasn't in the AHS Database yet.

Rita, are you familiar with WESTBOURNE HARVEST MOON? I just bid on it because I liked the picture and it seems to have those textured stripes in the sepals like WESTBOURNE MAMA KIRBY'S APRON has, although not as strong, but I would love to find another picture of it somewhere. Here is Mary Jane's picture:

She lists ones on the LA that she doesn't have enough of to put on her website. So she sells them until whatever small amount she has is gone.

I just checked, and she's added 15 to the LA dated today -- I knew I hadn't seen W. HARVEST MOON there yesterday, and another yellow just popped up a little while ago. Now I guess I'll have to keep checking...

I looked now and she sure has lots of them listed. I really shouldn't bid on any others as I already bought the three but I don't have much resistance lately.
