I'm going to try my bloommaster posts again this year and hope that I do better than last year. I'll use mostly coleus, make a point to use moisture crystals, and try to control myself and not plant every hole. Last year, planting every hole resulted in the plants not having room for roots.

Allison, I went to FIVE garden centers to find trailing torenia. I bought 2 4" pots. I sure hope they're worth that search!

the 4" won't fit in the holes.. but you can plant them in the top.. and they are worth it.. I love them

Yes, Allison, I only bought two of them. Planning to put one in the top of each.

I know it's hit & miss.. but I like to order them from park seed... they are the perfect size to fit in the side holes... the ones that come in 6 packs.. I grew my own from seed this year.. they did pretty good last year

They look like they'd root easily. Probably not well at this time of the year, when it's so cool and humidity is still low. I know that never works for me with coleus this time of year, but once the summer heat and humidity arrives, it works easily.

always worth a try... I read they are hit & miss rooting them.. and that might be the reason NC Farms won't sell them unrooted

Allison,
The Coleus tree is just amazing! Can I ask which brand of slow release fertilizer you add to the pots? Do you feed anything else?

Osmocote Indoor/Outdoor Slow Release Fertilizer... and once in a while compost tea... or Neptune's Harvest.. esp towards the end of summer... I know watering these like they are a water feature must wear the slow release down.. so around the end of July I always water with something in it.. and I always have Schultz PF around the house as well.. will use that alternately with the natural ones

Thanks for the info. I just wondered if the Osmocote lasted all season for you.
I'm going to order 10 of those Hang a pots. What size clay pots did you use on your trees? Have you found any plastic pots that work with them?

I have not found any plastic that will work... I bought 12" pots and stuck dollar store sand buckets with holes drilled in the bottom to retain moisture... but now that I installed the drip lines.. not going to need those anymore

it's hard to tell if the slow release lasts or not.. since I can't see it.. I just assume it is gone after a few months .. but don't really know

Osmo lasts maybe 3 months if watered a lot (3 times a week)....not counting any rain that might fall
