I'm sure they will be fine, Ken. Probably all your Phals will be showing spikes soon, too.

The area under my big oak trees is substantially warmer in the fall than out in the open. Even in winter some plants keep their leaves in temps under 40 there, when out in the open they are all knocked down. Unless it's windy, I'm thinking a certain amount of heat rising from the warm ground is trapped by the oak's branches.

I made a new backdrop for my orchid pics and wanted to try it out. Let me know what you think.

First is Rhyncholaeliocattleya [Rlc.] Thompsonii (Rlc. Digbyano-Purpurata x C. gaskelliana) just beginning to open. Sure can see the purpurata.

Next is Gur. bowringiana. Two spikes now open.

Another species, Epi. ciliare.

Finally, a last look at C. Penny Kuroda var. briegeri 'Corpusles' x C. granulosa. I just checked and it is still not registered. Too bad, it is a nice flower.

The little 'Shibuya' are almost too perfect, Ursula. What an amazing little plant!

Jim I like the new darker backdrop. It shows the delicate details on the Epi. ciliare beautifully. Love the Thompsonii, too.

I still have most of the orchids outside the cage while it dries. Just a couple of little blooms, but the big Vanda Jairak Heartthrob is looking ready to pop any second, so I brought it in and hung it up. Didn't want the squirrels getting any ideas on that one.

A nice last look at Bc. Hippodamia (B. nodosa X C. aclandiae) as it slowly fades.

Thanks, Ursula. Only a ten percent chance of rain today and it is pouring outside. I did switch out the Earth Box from green peppers to tomatoes and potted/mounted the rest of the Tropiflora loot. I still need to plant the palms and I have a couple of cycads to plant as well. I haven't seen my garden helper for a couple of weeks. I hope he comes around before long.

Garden helpers are surely a good thing. We have someone cutting the grass at our place in Pennsy, that saves about 4 hours of work every two weeks which are much better spent with more fun entertainment.... Smiling

in the meanwhile - how about a miniature in full bloom!?
This is Pleurothallis allenii with tons of little blooms right now. This one seems happy with more shady conditions, watered daily.

Ken's Eurychone rothschildiana
I must apologize, I should have moved the plant away from the more humid spot over the fish tanks as soon as the blooms opened. As a result I managed to get some of the pretty blooms spotted. Next time I know and I will move it earlier.

Dendrobium nobile not nobilis. Must agree in number and gender with Dendrobium. Latin. Just raving. These blooms come with a naughty flower spider. It makes you wonder how these little things plod their way across the terrain and bush to a bloom. And so many of mine are so unlucky because they usually find a daylily bloom, which is dead the next day. Then off again - tred tred tred tred tred flop climb climb climb climb.

It must be winter/early spring there? That is one of my favorite times as the Dendrobiums come out of winter rest to bloom! Lovey dubby
