There are so many different kinds of vines, I think that would be a great category. Thumbs up

Wouldn't vines be classified as annuals or perennials?

I think the vines are best served under Annuals, Perennials or Shrubs depending on the vine.

I like the listed categories. Thumbs up
I can see in the near future that certain companies may want to become sponsors for categories that fit their products.
For the 'macro category' maybe a photography company might be tempted to join us? Whistling I could sure use some lovely filters for my camera. Rolling on the floor laughing

Thanks for adding macro closeups. It kind of balances the landscape/garden category. And vegetables!

The idea that "photographic quality matters" motivates me to pay more attention to the technical part of getting a good photo. The Photography forum already taught me that the camera might be focusing on something other than what I was focusing on.

I bet this contest produces a bumper crop of suggestions for several future photo contests.

No offense Dave, but why wouldn't you want to include cooking, canning or recipe photos using homegrown garden grown foods? All food comes from a garden or farm somewhere. And, pets are what people love to share photos of too. Often times our pets, or farm animals, are buddies with us out in the yard and gardens. You may want to reconsider Smiling

Good question, @wind. The answer is that on our previous site, we really let it go in whatever direction it wanted to go and that meant it really went in every direction. It became a site that wasn't really centered around gardening. And that was fine for what that was but when we made ATP we made a conscious decision that it would be dedicated exclusively to gardening and that has worked out well.

Also, our sister site Cubits.org is available for all the other non-gardening stuff and that has worked out extremely well. A lot of people who are ATP members also spend time in the Pets cubit or the cooking cubits, etc. Some of those cubits even can do their own photo contests for pets and so-forth!

thanks for explaining Dave. I didn't realize that you still operated the Cubits site too. Understand better now. I probably won't ever join the Cubits site - so photos related to cooking, canning foods, or farm animals, backyard birds or even domestic pets like garden cats, I would have loved to have seen shared on this site in the photo contest. Whatever you decide to include will be great I'm sure. I look forward to participating Smiling

Hi Leon and Hetty, thanks for the warm welcome Smiling

Dutchlady, I wish I could be a good with plumeria as you are. Maybe I'd have plumeria photos to enter. Our tree is alive and well but no blooms again this year. boo hoo. I'll have to visit the plumeria forum. I'm assuming there's one.

Also, I noticed that the photography forum is really taking off. I hope to read up on some of the posts there. So Dave, I bet you'll have some fantastic photos submitted for the judges if you do decide on hosting a photo contest. Should be fun

Happy Gardening everyone!

I noticed that some people previously mentioned that the photos be current, so, I think that should listed as be one of the rules. Though, I have only one blooming flower, and a few sprigs of winter veggies, or veggies with only leaves. This time of year will be a challenge to get nice photos. That prize will definitely be earned.
