This is one of many kinds of grass that has gone to seed around here. It has a strong scent, I don't know if I can describe it, but it reminds me of molasses but more sour. My dh says it smells musty to him.

Looks more like Redtop (Tridens flavus) to me, but would need to see close views of the base of the stems and the leaf blades where they come of the stem to be sure.
