@chiquib313,
I don't know how I missed your African Violets and containers until now. I'm not sure what I like more, your containers or your AVs. *Blush* Is that something you purchased as containers built for water wicking AVs or did you make those yourself?

This certainly is not a planter since it is a natural wood form, but I use it as a planter and it is home to one of my more rare staghorn ferns.

I don't have a clue what the wood is but think that it is at least 100 years old. A neighbor gave it to me and said her husband brought it in one day, about 30 years ago, and said for her to do something with it. She said she always planned on using it for something but it has just been in her backyard all those years, unused. This piece of wood has weathered so long that it has hollowed out, the wood is as hard as a rock, and the edges are knife-edged. I have sealed the wood with chemical cured epoxy to show the color, texture, and beauty of the wood.

Ken,
I think it qualifies as a planter and a very cool one at that!

I'm putting everything that will fit into these pots. I love cuter, more interesting pots, but prefer the way plants thrive in these orchid pots (whether orchids or not.)

I like those pots too, Tiffany. I go a step further and drill numerous 3/8" holes all around the pots for better air movement. Of course the vast majority of my orchid plants are not grown in pottery but are in mesh-pots, since I ship all orchid plants in their pots. Clay is just way too heavy to ship.

I have killed every plant that I grow in terracotta pots. I know it is because of my lack of watering. I think they are terrific for normal gardeners that regularly monitor moisture and water their plants when needed.

Normal I am not. I will see my plants screaming for a drink then I run and water. That does not work with terracotta.

You don't have enough plants, Cinta. Whistling When you have a lot of them, you are always watering something, and that makes watering easier to keep up with. Thumbs up

Terracotta only works for me if it's for my cacti. My one Aloe that is in terracotta is happy, but I'm sure it'd be happier in plastic. When I've tried placing other plants in terracotta, they'd dry out way too fast for me and I think I inadvertently ended up watering them too much!

Extremely well-draining soil, Planto. Thumbs up That's always the key, plastic or clay.

Rolling on the floor laughing @drdawg I think if I had anymore plants I would have more deaths. I hate to water plants. I probably water my plants 2 or 3 times all winter. That is Nov - April. That is why pots with no drainage holes work so good for me. *Blush*

Tongue-in-cheek, Cinta. But my inquisitive nature forces me to ask why you don't water more? Confused

The only excuse I have is lazy Ken. If I water and they have drainage I have to dump the dish or it runs on the floor. If it runs on the floor I have to pull out the cleaning and polishing gear or my hardwood floors would be ruined.

My plants are in every room except for only one in the Dining room. I have about 200 houseplants, succulents. 40 tropical plants that I try to keep just barely alive from Nov - May. It is just to much work.

If I do not have drainage holes and soil that does not have a lot of drainage I can give them a sip of water once every two months and everybody is happy until they go out side where mother nature can care for them and give them the liquid gold they desire.

IDK why I didn't think about this pot before, but I guess I do have a fav one. It's a purple wire mesh thing. IDK what its' original purpose was, school locker accessory I think. Even *I* can't overwater these succulents in this!

Tiff,
That's an interesting use for that item! Maybe I need to buy something like that for my Mother. She seems to overwater succulents. Hilarious!

Oh Tiffany I love the color.

I do not have problems over watering but I do like wire baskets. I get them cheap at the Thrift store and put together group succulents in them.
