Sedum acre and the Mother Pot: the Making of Glowing Groundcovers

By Gleni
October 6, 2014

Glowing yellow, stunningly good on the eye, and beloved of bees, this sedum is one I had tried to use before as a groundcover. It was a big fail. The cuttings usually did not take. One day I accidentally discovered the secret of the mother pot.

Perfect.
You found an inexpensive way to accomplish something huge and wonderful. Not just inexpensive money-wise, but also easy on your time - you let the plant do most of the work for you Thumbs up .
Great idea and I will now figure out how to make it work for my little piece of the planet.
Thanks!

I agree with Greene! Gleni, that sedum is simply stunning, and the way you have propagated it is simplicity itself. Thank you for sharing!

Letting the plant do the work for you as Greene said was a stroke of genius, although it didn't start out that way!

I have Acre growing in many places in my garden. It turns up in the strangest spots. Not sure how it does it unless bits and pieces get kicked out of place and then start growing where ever it lands. It is trying to take over my 2' garden path in spots but as you say it is easy to remove. Grows fast though. I have one little path with large stones in it and the sedum is growing around the stones. I trimmed it back some to be sure the entire stone was available for stepping on. The poor sedum just gets squashed if walked upon. Has pretty little yellow flowers even.

Perfect for your area there. While I did enjoy the plant I had to remove it because it was poised to take over my entire property. I still find pieces of it which I quickly dispatch.

And it is more than just a ground cover

@juvdbb Waiting for the photo when you are completely covered in the sedum.

That picture is of my mom, when we were evicting it. I can't remember if she took some back to her place or not.

But what a great halloween costume that would make!!!
