First of my repots.... this is my white Adenium (wanted this pot for the red one but the plant was too big).....used cactus soil with lots of perlite for drainage. Also put a layer of just perlite in the bottom of the pot for extra drainage. Several of the roots had grown through the holes of the plastic pot...had a heck of a time getting it out without really damaging the roots.

I also raised the caudex just a bit.

Please feel free to critique and let me know how I did....I want to give my new friends the best chance I can!!

They all look good Kim! Next will be finding their winter dormancy resting area indoors. Have you picked out where you will put them later? Smiling

TY tarev! Smiling

I think my game plan is to put them in my basement with a grown light along with the rest of my plants. It will be cool but I think it will be away from the dry gas heat in my house.... Right now I have them in my living room near a window.

What do you suggest about watering them....once a week....month....not at all? Our really cold winter generally goes from about mid November until March or so.....

I'm open to any other ideas... I'm all ears!

I would suggest to get a feel for how heavy 'well watered' is, then keep the plants nearly dry, light weight but not nearly dusty dry. It's really easy to spread your fingers on the soil and turn the pot upside down to get the plant out of the pot for a quick root check. I find I'm doing this quite often. Doesn't hurt anything.

Oh, if the plants aren't rootbound, they will need less watering.

LOVE your bloom Melissa!!

With the new pots they are not anywhere near rootbound...I shouldn't need to repot for a few years (I think). I think there will be a lot of trial and error... hopefully not TOO much error!!

I just thought about something...I have some chop sticks....I think what I will do is use them to stick into the soil to see how damp it is......

I do not water at all my Adeniums, once I have them indoors. It will just drop most or all the leaves and will just go to sleep during winter here in my area. I would only water later on once I see new leaves growing. I have now learned to safely wait and bring it out by end of April to early May to do so.

Yes, maybe leave it there. The flower is called "Siam Golden Aroma" Faintly sweet sometimes. Is both a pod and a pollen parent in my quest to breed fragrant Adeniums. I need to move to a farm!!!

This is supposed to be 'black' but is more like brick red in full sun. I had another, and kept it inside by a big window, and the blooms were as dark as they should be. I forget this one's name. Another is named "Black Window" that I'll be spending fifty bucks to acquire soon. Erghhhh

Hi all.... this is sooooo going against what I normally do with my plants--it's KILLING ME!!! But I am refraining!! I haven't watered my DRs since I transplanted them. The leaves are all dropped, soil dry. They still feel "firm", so no rotting. But I'm used to trying to keep my plants watered so the don't dry out!!

Does it sound like I'm on the right track Confused

Sounds okay! Especially with cold temps in your area now..all the more no watering. They thrive on loving neglect during cold season.

Thanks tarev!! I usually work so hard trying to keep my plants from drying out and dropping leaves during the winter!! This is all so strange to me. I will try extra hard not to give in and water. Do not water....do not water.... Whistling

Well I guess I do mine differently, they are always in a pot, in the summer they are on my back patio, now they are all in my back room that has plenty of windows, I treat mine the same all year, and I get blooms in the winter time too, right now the are all blooming and I have 4 seedpods, those I do not really need as I do not want to start any more.

Very pretty, Doris!!

This is the first time I'm trying to grow DRs so I have a lot to learn. Wish I had a greenhouse or sun room etc. to grow my plants on. I was born and raised in South FL and had beautiful plants all year but here in PA I have such a hard time getting them through the winter.

Well, hey, if they look bedraggled, so water might do them good. I bet they have really low humidity, they like 60% Put the pots in a bowl with about an inch of water, and let that soak a half hour.

Anyone disagree? They do need a wee bit of water!

Just check your temps closely Kim. Your plant will still be acclimating, having been repotted then being moved to another location again. Feel the soil. We all have our different micro climates..so what works for some may not work for your set-up. I have learned to err on the side of caution. When I see my plants dropping their leaves, I let it be and just allow it to sleep. My house temps once with heater running I just keep it at 68F and humidity is at 45% so it just lulls them to sleep. And my plants are by a south facing window in winter. The combination of low temps and shorter light in winter, is bed time for these plants. I bought a weather station too so I can monitor indoors and outdoors temps and humidity. From time to time I also try to feel the caudex, as long as it feels firm, then it is okay.

From what I have seen too, if the stem/caudex is still more green and with a thin layer of bark, for sure it is very cold sensitive, but if it is a bit more mature and that bark is more of a harder bark/shell it is ably withstanding even up to 45F.
