I love their food. Reminds me of home. They have three big meat cases full of prepared items from salads to cheese dips, deserts, then a case full of their own meats..roasted and smoked.....turkey, chicken, ham, etc Fresh sausage, ham hocks, stuff you just can not buy (depending where you live) in the super markets. They have all the cole slaw and pepper cabbage and the sweet and sour stuff, deviled eggs. I love going every week when the weather is nice. They come here from Lancaster County, PA every week Thurs. Fri. and Sat. and sell all their foods. They also have candy, cookies, cakes and pies, canned things, and there is no getting into the restaurant from breakfast to dinner without standing in line. They also have a sandwich section that is also packed. They have a Gluten Free section...The bakery is my favorite and their homemade candy...oh dear...so yummy and fattening. It is remarkable for tourists. It is called the Columbus Market and beginning on Wednesdays, they have little stores and on Thurs. Fri and Sat. they have people who sell their stuff at stands and it is so big you just can not walk around it outside and inside and see it all in one day unless you keep moving. Thursday is the worst day to find parking....it is jammed. Sorry I am rambling. I just love that PA. Dutch Food. It is so simple but so "goot".

I remember visiting an Amish restaurant in the Lancaster area last summer (2013)--it was delicious!

JB, I love reading about this, you are not rambling at all, in my book! And Amish food sounds wonderful! Good, healthy, stick to the ribs goot.

Green Grin!

I bet you'd have to put in hours of physical labor every day, though, to eat that diet and stay at a healthy weight!

Oh heavens, I do not eat that good stuff every day. I am basically a good eater considering I am old as dirt. I eat fruit for breakfast and either a half a bagel with light cream cheese or egg whites with cheese. My big problem is the cheese. I do love cheese of all kinds and it has so much cholesterol in it I must be careful to limit myself daily.
Lunch is smoked turkey or chicken salad or soup....sometimes pizza when I feel like I need a fix. Rolling on the floor laughing I could eat pizza every meal, everyday and still look for more. So again, I have to ration myself.
Dinner is usually whatever is in the freezer fish or chicken. I eat very little red meat except I love meatballs in sauce.
So, that leaves dessert....serbet mostly and sometimes vanilla ice cream with green creme de menth on it. Thumbs up
So there is my diet. I snack on Snyder twist pretzel sticks, crackers and chips when I need salt.
What is your daily diet?

You eat a lot more healthily than I do, JB. Smiling I love cheese, too, and eat it frequently. Like meats, but it is so expensive, I don't eat it very often. Breakfast can be nothing, toast, eggs, or just vegetables (Brussell Sprouts this morning). Really depends on how I feel, what is convenient, and what time of year it is. Sometimes a sandwich for lunch, sometimes just potato chips and blender salsa. Microwaved potatoes loaded with butter, cheese, jalapenos, chopped tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream. Thai noodles. Don't eat at any particular time or any certain number of times a day. Just all over the place.

My daughter loves Snyder's pretzel sticks, too!

At this point, both she and I are having our main meal of the day for lunch at work/school. We both have nice cafeterias with good selections. In the morning at home I just have coffee, and we're both likely to just snack in the evening. However, we did make one of her favorites this weekend--a taco casserole that she really loves.

You know those Cup of Noodles that the are in the oriental dept. of the grocery store? They are so cheap I buy those to eat when I don't feel like cooking. They are loaded with sodium so I don't eat them regularly. That would not be good for my old BP. Rolling on the floor laughing

Me, too, JB. I use half of that packet and boost it with non-salt seasonings like more garlic. And garlic. Did I say garlic? I like garlic. Hilarious!

The Trouble with Ramen noodles, etc. is the high calories! I'm always shocked at how many calories in one packet ofRamen noodles. And I love em....

Has anyone ever heard of a sweet noodle dish, prepared with milk and sugar? I remember this from way, way back in my childhood. I don't think it's a Polish dish, maybe Ukranianian? My mom would make it once in a while. Basically, I think it's noodles cooked in milk and sugar, possibly with cinnamon?

Does anyone else go thru "phases" with food? There's times when I'll start eating one thing and just can't enough of it...then like a switch, bleh! Can't stand it. Hilarious! Last "phase" was those el-cheapo tv dinners by Banquet...I can buy one for 89 cents. They're around 300 calories so I figured better that than a donut...had one almost every day for about a month. Now there's 2 in the fridge I can't even bear to LOOK at them. *HA*
I am not "country" I am "landed gentry."

I think I remember a sweet noodle dish, but can't remember the name of it. Yes, very good!

Phases--definitely! My DD, too. My current one is Edy's lime fruit bars.

Yep, I do the same thing. Right now it is Huy Fong Vietnamese Chili Garlic Sauce. Most everything I am making at the moment has it as a component. Good thing because it lends itself to tomato-based foods which, generally, are lower in calories than many other things I could be eating. Like the queso craze I had a few months ago. Gallon jars of nacho-sliced jalapenos and #10 cans of cheese sauce because I wanted it every..single..day. Blinking Blinking Hilarious! Hilarious! (Although it is the salt I need to be more concerned about rather than the caloric content.)

Sweet noodle kugel?

Apples are one of my bird's favorites and of course the dog, Charle likes a bite also....this is the season and I can remember when we had to go out and gather apples and then peal and core them for Grandma had to make applesauce. Then there is the old Dutch Apple Butter and cream cheese combination...that to me was like peanut butter...we always had apple butter.
I love the tart apples, in fact they are like potato chips to me. I eat too many and then belly ache. Shrug! Nothing like a good "delicious" apple for a snack. The dark red delicious are my favorite..my birds too. Funny they can tell the difference like a human.

I'm loving the strawberry rhubarb pie that is made in our famous bakery in Delaware Water Gap. People come from miles around for the pastries here. Not good that I can get there in 10 minutes whenever I want more.

It's called "noodle pudding". You can do a Google search for recipes and get a lot of hits.

I am with you JB. I am trying to lose weight and all I want to do is EAT ! Thank God, I can only go grocery shopping once a month.

Smiles,
Lyn

I am having a salad with smoked turkey and wine for dinner. I am back with the Merlot. I only lost two pounds not drinking wine with meals. See if it stays off. One month....not worth it. I love my wine with meals.
