Hi, @needrain,
Your photo appears to show Tragopogon dubius, from the flower colour and long calyces. The most obvious difference is that the flowers are pink on T. porrifolius.
Unless your other photos that show the plant in seed were confirmed to be T. porrifolius while it was still in bloom, I'd suggest all the photos should be moved to T. dubius.

Lori,

Several years ago I worked hard to identify this. What I learned then was Tragopogon sinuatus - or at least that's what I ended up tagging the photos which might not be the same thing. That is all I knew and it wasn't in the database. The flowers are most definitely not pink at any stage as they grow around here. I had proposed it as T. sinuatus because that was not in the database and it was approved, but as a synonym of T. porrifolius ssp porrifolius. I think you are obviously correct about it being T. dubius. I'll ask Zuzu to move the photos.

Why it would have been "accepted" as Tragopogon sinuatus is equally bizarre. All one has to do to check the IDs of most plants is to simply google the scientific name and then select "Images" to see photos of the plant for a quick comparison.

Images, for the most part, don't go through an approval process.

Needrain proposed adding Tragopogon sinuatus to the database. Zuzu approved the proposal, but edited the entry to reflect the currently accepted name of T. porrifolius ssp. porrifolius. That's it.

Yeah, Lori, it was entirely my doing. I had looked long and hard at identifying this several years ago. I'm pretty sure I had the correct id at one time, but somehow got an incorrect one on my photos. I had come up with a lot of different names. I didn't go and double check how I had labeled the photos anywhere before I asked to add T. sinuatus to the database. No one else was seeing the photos. I'm so glad you caught the mistake right after it was done. Thank You! Thank You! If I had used Google using how I had it labeled, I'd have seen the pink bloom and known I'd recorded the wrong name. I obviously didn't do that. Hopefully, before I ask another time, I will try to verify it before asking. Heck, even the common name I had found - Noonflower - would have been enough to find the correct name.
