Thought I had better post the details of the clinic here so people could start planning for the event.
The third annual clinic will be at my yard in
Salem OR on April 18th starting at 12 noon. The first part will be a brief tour of the Vaughn garden so that you can see the collection of Sempervivum, especially the new semps from Fernwood that have grown into clumps plus many of the Vaughn seedlings that have now grown into clumps. If the season cooperates there should be a large display of daffodils and dwarf irises blooming for your pleasure (and of course I breed them too!).
The second part will include the instruction on how to evaluate semp seedlings and how to proceed towards a goal in hybridizing. This will be illustrated in plants in the garden. Then each group will be given exercises to test their skills at judging the seedlings. A surprise visitor will also be present!
After that, we will retire to Robert's Crossing for an early dinner and talk more semps.
Generally Lynn organizes an event at her place and a trip to Cynda and Dave Foster's place for purchasing new plants on Friday or Saturday morning. The Salem area is ALIVE with nurseries of all types. Plan on spending a couple of days and shop 'til you drop!
As they say in the south "y'all come".

Just adding a photo of one of Kevin's new hybrids. I think it comes out this spring (2015) through Young's Garden Center.
