The tag is old and part has fallen off but it does say that it's Pony Tail Fern. Is that true? Is that how it's listed on the Database?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Asparagus densiflorus I think....commonly called asparagus fern here. Pony Tail may be another common name.

Foxtail Fern (Asparagus densiflorus 'Myers')

I found one site for Ponytail Fern that has the cultivar name 'Meyersii'. It says "The ponytail fern (Asparagus densiflorus "Meyersii"), often called foxtail or cat-tail fern, is actually a member of the lily family. "

I appreciate the help.

Here's the part that does not apply to the plant I have: The plant's thorny, tapered stems...

I am used to the thorny stems of asparagus fern but this doesn't have that feature.

Perhaps Jay's ID is perfect!

I know it as 'Meyersii', but usually hear it called 'Fox Tail Fern'. Heard a lady from Houston call it 'Bottle Brush Fern'. Unlike the other Asparagus densiflorus 'Sprengeri', it does not have the nasty little thorny spines on the stems.

A photo of Meyersii:

For comparison, here's a photo of Sprengeri which does have the spiny stems:

Thanks, Jean!

Donald - thanks for the photos and the ID help. I remember the typical asparagus fern from the 70's and those nasty thorns.

I will enter it as the Foxtail Fern and next year I'll give it more light and re-pot it.
