Great blue heron down at our farm pond. The fallen branch looks somewhat like a fishing pole, which would certainly be appropriate - last weekend we had 3 herons, 2 eagles, and a river otter all fishing for spawning salmon. I tried to catch a pic of the otter, but he was too shy and ducked under the water whenever I got on our deck. Second picture is more of a splash than anything recognizable, but it's the otter.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.
Cool pictures Deb! I love how the reflection of that pretty Heron in the pond ... and yep, that's exactly what the otters do here when they spot a human!

Neat photo of the heron Deb! Otters are hard to capture. We had some one year in a pond we lived on and drove myself crazy trying to catch them on film years ago.

We get Common Grackles and Boat-tailed Grackles sporadically all year but they are really prolific during the winter months when large flocks reside here in the south. They always raid the seed and suet feeders, scattering seed everywhere as they search for just the right morsel, usually peanuts or peanut nuggets. They aren't my favorite bird but I still find them to be interesting looking with those wild eyes. Sometimes when the light hits them just right it shows their pretty colors too. We have the Brown Pelican here which is a year-round resident and the American White Pelican which spends time here during the winter months.These are photos from last year. A rather grainy photo I took through the kitchen window earlier this morning of a little Warbler perched in the Cypress tree and a few minutes ago I was out on the deck and spotted this Anhinga perched across the water from us:
