Now that looks like a nice feeder and won't it be great if it keeps the squirrels out! I'll have to look at our Wal-Mart to see if by chance they have any although they have totally cleared out the area in the inside garden center where the birdseed, feeders etc. are usually kept ... the inside is all Christmas stuff now. They have only one isle just inside the door that has feeders and seed and the supply is scarce, not much available at all. It seems our three Wal-Mart stores do this every fall and they don't restock wild bird supplies until after the holidays. Sad

Cat, that looks like a good design, I am always looking for better easy to clean feeders and especially good if it keeps the squirrels out. Thumbs up

Right now I have the darn starlings after the suet, they can devour a cake in no time. Grumbling

Lin, they don't have much at ours either. I did need some thistle so I was back there looking around at what they did have. Found 4 of those feeders on a top shelf kind of pushed to the back. I had to stand on the bottom shelf to reach it (even though I know I am not supposed to, lol. Big Grin ).

Ugh Margaret, I know! They stop around her every now and then and they are like a flash mob! A band new suet block is gone in a flash! Grumbling

The feeder was $14.88 plus tax but I don't mind paying a little if it is a decent feeder. Smiling

If it's made of plastic I will probably have issues with raccoons chewing through it because I'm bad about remembering to take the feeders down at night if there's still seed left in them; but $14.99 seems very reasonable to me.

Hopefully there won't be any issues with Raccoons! We used to have them getting in our trash pretty often but there have not been any (that I have seen) around for a while. The pole the feeder is on is kind of skinny so I hope they won't be able to climb it! I guess we'll see...

I have to fight raccoons along with the squirrels even deer too out here. Squirrels have chewed up anything plastic and raccoons have broken or taken a number of feeders over the years. The deer have come in the yard and popped up the screen bottoms of the platform feeders so the seed would dump on the ground.

Finally got photos of the Hairy Woodpecker Sunday! Notice how chewed up that suet feeder is from when it used to hang on the tree!

The Carolina Wren is a great little bird; I only see them sporadicly nowadays for some reason but a few years ago at our old house (about a mile away from where we are now) they were always around and built nests every year in two Purple Martin Condo style birdhouses that I had in the yard. The babies are adorable. This picture is from 2011:

Awww! Lovey dubby How Cute! May be I can put up boxes that they will use for nest next year. That would really be neat!

Here are a few Waxwing photos, they were taken through the windows so not too sharp, it was fun watching them eating the berries off the Hawthorn tree.

I just love the Waxwings!! Your photos are fantastic Margaret. I wish I could get them to come into view here. Good photo ops don't happen often here and not in my yard! But I do see groups flying around. I hear them more than I see them.

I don't know why but the Carolina Wrens hangout up around the house more in the fall/winter. They are cute and entertaining.

Thank you Claudia, we planted 2 ornamental crabs and a hawthorn tree that gets berries fairly close to the house for the birds when we bought the property 14 years ago. Also there were a number of junipers on ours and the neighbors property, they love those berries too, wish I had planted more of those too as I found out that the Townsend's Solitaire will eat only those in the winter.

Cat, plant anything that gets berries that are editable for the birds, there are all kinds and sizes of shrubs, I am sure that lots grow in your zone. I agree that they are beautiful birds, I just love them! Lovey dubby

Margaret okay. I am sure I can find something. I have just recently planted some shrubs (can't remember them all at the moment). I added them to my plant list. I will double check as I think one or two may get some type of berries. If not, I will add some more! Big Grin

Margaret, WOW ... amazing pictures of those Waxwings! I love the different positions, really cool! We get the Cedar Waxwings down here during @ February to April and sometimes there are huge flocks of them. It's always a joy to see those beauties!
