Have you bought any Iris specifically for the beards?
Or do you have some that have surprised you with how beautiful the combination of beard color and flower color are together?
Do you love horns, spoons or flounces?

I'm waiting for several I got this year to bloom. I have high expectations for several to be "beardalicious" next Spring.

Here are a few of my favorites from this year that are completely different.

'Concertina' is an IB with beautiful, horned blue beards.

'Paul Black' just wowed me with it's fat orange beards that contrasted so nicely with the dark purple flowers.

The spoons on 'Spooned Blaze' just make me smile. I think there's so much whimsy in it.

Which ones do you like?

I bought Tobacco Chew expressly for the beards. Just got it this year, so haven't seen it bloom here yet.

One of my best surprises this past spring was when Alien Mist bloomed -- first time in my garden. The beards made the flower, and it instantly became a favorite of mine.

Another Iris that bloomed for the first time last spring, and whose beard made the flower was Holly Lane:

That lavender beard against the delicate shell pink of the flower was just enchanting! My pictures don't do it justice.

Alien Mist is beautiful!
I got Tobacco Chew this year too. A couple of SDB's from Mid-America look like they're going to be fun.

Ok...here's my list of my favorite beards and horns:
Some of my pictures don't do justice to the flowers...

These ones have horns, spoons, or flounces:

Holy Night
(I like this one because it is subtle...but nice and bushy. I love the blue color.)

These are new ones with really pronounced or interesting beards/horns/flounces. Maybe I can attach photos later in a separate post.

( Note: I don't know how to get it to automatically post the database photo of these...since they are new and have not bloomed yet. Maybe one of you can explain how to do that? I also don't know if it's OK to post a photo from another site as long as you give credit to the source?)

Love Snow Spoon and Holy Night enough that they are going on my must have list. I would love to have all the others too, but Snow Spoon and Holy Night just knocked a lot of them down a notch or two. Alien Mist and Crete are others I have to get. Been looking at Alien Mist and Crete for awhile but these pictures just put me over the edge. I just got Revision this last summer and will be looking forward to it blooming it's little beards off. Hurray!

I ordered Witch's Wand this year because of the purple falls and orange beard. So pretty together. All the ones mentioned above are gorgeous. But then, I never met an Iris I didn't like. Big Grin

Marilyn, each photograph in the database has a 'number' attached to it.

Using Londonderry as the example, go to the DB and find the Iris.
Click on the photograph you like best.

Just above that photograph will be a string of characters looking like this:
[db_photo]12003[/db_photo (I took the last square bracket off so you could see the string)

Copy that string in its entirety and paste into your thread/reply.
It’s okay to not know all the answers.

Ok...here are the database links and photos imported from other sites. If I'm not supposed to import photos (with appropriate credits, free advertising!) then I'm sure someone will let me know.

These are the ones that are new this year so I am anxiously awaiting their maiden blooms! nodding

Oh yay! A good picture of Swoosh! I got that one and A Star is born as bonus from the PNW sale. Can't wait to see them in bloom!

Marilyn: I got Sensationalizer, I Wuv Woses, Elvis Dreamer, Merci Marci, and Glitter Gulch from Wild Iris Rows. I got Abby and Me (forgot that one earlier), Pucker Power, Purr Form Mints and Talking Turkey from Stouts. I got Kid Power from Damon Gardens (but Stout's has it too) and Awesome Alex from Tom (thanks!!!). I feel I am still missing a Burseen from this list.......hmmmmm

I have already ordered Osay Canuc from Wild Iris Rows for next year, and hope to also pick up Tobacco Chew and a few others from Stout's.

I enjoy contrasting beards, horns are ok & dislike flounces. I think that those detract from the form.

'Cowabunga' is another Burseen with a nice contrasting orange beard to blue flowers. It's on my never-ending wish list..

..and just take a look at Space Ager, 'Mercy Marci' on Stout's site:
http://www.stoutgardens.com/se...

Leslie, I also got 'Swoosh' as a bonus from the PNW sale... It must increase like crazy... which is good.. 'A Star is Born' sounds lovely!!
