Wow! A 100 is pretty hot for this time of the year! Your GH must be well insulated. That's good news. You'll be grateful for warm temps when it gets cold again!

Isn't that the truth! Nothing like opening your doors and seeing only a solid mass of snow. How does one with dogs, walk them? Sticking tongue out

I can barely handle simple cold weather. I am so foreign to snow. I have no clue. Once my GF invited me to Erie, PA to teach me how to wear boots. Rolling on the floor laughing And that joke about the salt truck? (Blonde yells at the dump truck, "Sir! You're losing your load!!" Driver: "I'm a salt truck, ma'am!") I had to have my friend in NJ explain it to me.

Works for me, Linda. I just wondered. Surely, our Northern friends will know the answer. Shrug!

Good question, Ken. Dogs here have a whole pasture to run in, but it's never been buried in snow at the depths shown in Buffalo. Will that initial cover last all winter?

Nope. As I understand it, all these FEET of snow weigh 2-3 times what "normal" snow does. Its because the water in the Great Lakes is still warm and the snow has a lot of extra water in it. There is a warming trend coming, as well as 1/2 - 1" of rain over the next several days. The weather folks are now predicting flooding all over the place because of the combination of rapidly melting snow and rain. I am surprised, with all this additional weight, that there are not wholesale numbers of roofs caving in under the weight.

Donald, in Manitoba where we lived before in Canada , the initial snow that comes in November stays till May, lucky to get early thaw in April. Our consistent sub freezing and double digit negative temps keeps it there.

That extreme snowfall in Buffalo is indeed worrisome. If their forecasts says warming temps next..that will indeed be flooding. It also happens up North, flooding as the snow melts eventually and made worst by the south to north flow of the Red River as snow melts from the US and gets carried back to Manitoba.

I know the people in that side of the east coast are used to the wintry conditions..but that kind of extreme snow and thaw in a few days..that will be very disastrous indeed.

It reached back up into the 70s here today. I hauled some more containers back outside. I get lots of exercise in the winter months moving plants in and then back out and then back in..........

Wow, 63° predicted for a LOW tonight! And recently I longed for a HIGH like that! But then lows in the 30's are supposed to come back as early as Monday night. Quite a roller coaster ride!

We keep getting flood alerts. Rain is still coming down hard. Thunder has subsided, but I thought lightning hit the house about half an hour ago. Too much rain to go out to see. I went upstairs and sniffed around, but too chicken to go into the attic! Will send DH at halftime. Whistling

We're still waiting for the rain here in Houston. I see most of it is staying in the Gulf. Good thing because it is a BIG storm cell out there! I think it will make landfall in LA. Poor LA! I got another bunch of leaves picked up and cleaned up the mess made from yesterday. I become a bit obsessed about those leaves at this time of year, can you tell? It's so much easier to do a little at a time than one big mess. I, too pulled out some of my larger Tropicals that were in the garage. They could use some fresh air and rain water. I hate the thought of being stuck inside on a rainy day. Maybe things will subside for you and your DH will make good on that dinner date, @Bubbles?

Cheryl, can't think of dinner date with DH that hasn't happened? Maybe on another forum? He's pretty good about offering to go out!

The rain is coming again this evening. At least it subsided long enough for us to check the roof. No lightning strike noticed. Our area has more lightning stikes than the norm.

Had dinner and now the lightning and thunder is back with a vengeance. Not much rain yet, but it's on the way from the southwest. There has been flooding as usual in low areas of Austin. Hope this storm clears out by midnight. Supposed to be beautiful tomorrow!

Rain is here now!

@Bubbles
this?

I have to say, I'm a bit peeved with the weather guy. DH wanted to take me out or dinner, but I didn't want to be caught in the wind and hail and rain. I think they both owe me dinner now.

Gotcha, but it was in another thread, so I was confused. It was in Preparing for the Cold, right? I thought you had the impression that he tried to duck out of a dinner date! Confused

It's really pouring now. Backyard is flooded. At least the thunder and lightning has subsided. I had to make a grocery run this afternoon and noticed that the trees are finally turning....almost like overnight! Our street is usually so pretty with the trees in fall. After this storm, I bet there won't be many leaves left.

Your green house will pay for itself tonight keeping your plants safe.

Of our 42 low water crossings in Austin area, only 36 are still closed! That's progress. There's only been one low water crossing rescue, so far tonight. Some of Austin has had 5" of rain, and it's still falling. Don't know how much we've had, but the armchair quarterbacks will all be out front tomorrow comparing their rain gauges, I'm sure!

Supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow!
