As always YMMV.-Your Mileage May Vary. Currently Lowe's AND Home Depot are offering 10% off for Veterans in their stores only. But they do this everyday and has taken it away from the rest of the private sector to honor the Vets, specifically. So there will be times such as this particular holiday that you might have to hunt to find a discount. Other holidays like ones coming up, there will be discounts and specials to watch out for, like on Black Friday. But the news reported this week that Black Friday-like sales and discounts are already being offered. So it's time to shop around for the deals.
If you don't see the 10% offered directly online as I often do in my area, check with some online coupon sites like Retailmenot.com. slickdeas.net, oneprojectcloser.com, and even Lowes.com and Homedepot.com. Lowe's always offers this coupon and can be used for up to $5,000 in a one- time purchase. And guess what? You don't even have to move!

Home Depot has a Gardening Club that frequently offers discounts on gardening supplies. You can join here:

I might as well mention the obvious here that certain restrictions also apply like lumber is often not included in discounts. But again YMMV.
Still, I manage to save hundreds of dollars at these stores with my measly 10% off. Lowe's offered other selections on items not offered in stores which sometimes cost less than the ones on the shelves. For instance, the $123 sink I needed for the greenhouse. It was a doable price and I considered it. But it was $119 online. I almost bought it. Upon closer look at the online selection I chose the less fancy faucet one only offered online for $89, then took 10% off that and FREE delivery. OR FREE pick up at the store. So you still have to shop around and know what you are buying.
PLUS Lowe's sends in the mail Project cards good for $10 off $50 and $25 off $250 frequently. They have good planning as I often receive these cards right after my big projects are finished.
