Lin, there's a website called Central Florida Ferns ... http://cfferns.com/ ... have you looked there? Maybe they have something that would appeal to you.

@p1mkw Mary, thanks for that link. When I go to their website I can't seem to get any results when I click on things in their menu. I'm not actually looking for ferns but I was trying to find an identity for Davids fern in an earlier post and the more I look at fern pictures I'm really leaning towards a Painted Fern @DavidofDeland how about the Japanese Painted Fern?

@p 1 mkw

Mary, *Blush* You didn't misunderstand my first post ... I'm old and I didn't even remember that I was the one who started this thread. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I went back to the first post and yep, it was me ... I was asking about ferns for a new member who lives somewhere in Florida and she asked on another ATP forum/thread about what ferns might do well in full sun locations. I thought maybe some of our fellow Florida gardeners might be able to help with suggestions.

... and Sighing! I can't even remember the new members name or what the other forum was where she was asking about ferns. Gee ... I need some youth serum for my brain! Green Grin!

It sure is pretty Lin! Alas and alack it is not the one I have. The leaves aren't nearly as delicately combed as the Japanese. Thank you though! I'm looking around here and there too. Smiling

The coloring of David's fern reminded me of the footed ferns. If you google Bear's Paw ferns there are a number of images including several that appear to be identical to David's photo. This one was on PF.

Good eye Alice! Phlebodium ferns are native here in Florida and David's fern may very well be a Phlebodium aureum! We have a few listed in our database here: http://garden.org/plants/searc...

Anyone know which one this might be ? Saw it in a dish garden at a nursery. No "feet" like a squirrels or rabbit's foot fern.

Hi MJ, it is not exact but that one sure looks close to one of the Davallias, trichomanoides maybe. Since it was in a florist's dish garden there is always the possibility they might have unintentionally buried the rhizomes, especially if the plant was young with baby size feet.

I thought so at first too Alice, but it just somehow looks different than my Squirrels foot. I'll probably be back up there before long and I'll see if it's still there. Big greenhouse near me that mostly does Orchids/ Tropical's / etc lots of exotics also.
