The little red thing at the end of each pitcher is called a nectar spoon. The plant produce a sweet smelly nectar and many flying insects fight for that nectar, fall into the pitcher and drown into the water inside. After a while, that water became very rich in nitrogen, and the plant absorb the nutritive soup.
