Hampton Court Palace Flower Show (Part 1)

By NEILMUIR1
July 13, 2011

Built in 1514, Hampton Court Palace was home to King Henry VIII and is stunning, as are the gardens. It is now also home to the worlds biggest flower show! Unfortunately the day I went it rained and rained, but bear with me as I go through acres of mud to show you some of the sights!

Neil you take us on such amazing tours. This one certainly doesn't disappoint me. The only thing that would be better is being there in person.
Thank you so much. I look forward to Part 2.

Well let me tell you Lynn, I have been there and seen this, even as a boy I loved Hampton Court and Bushy park as I remember (with a royal parks permit) fishing and enjoying the surroundings of this place. Neil has done a remarkable job of taking us there, and me back to my past and you into the reality of this wonderful place and flower show. You just could not do better than Neil through what he has done to bring this to us, even though we may be thousands of miles away we see through the wonderful eye and camera of our dear friend Neil.

Dear Lynn, I do believe that apart from Dave's Welcome Article, this is the first Article on the new site! Then to have you make the first post is such an added bonus! I noticed about the Horse that you click on plants and it takes you to your forum. It is hard doing Articles of that size, as so many people love different plants and want to see their favorites on the Article. It gets impossible to be honest.
I have a thing on my belt that tells me how far you walk, as I have to walk as I do not have any other means of transport. That day at Hampton Court with walking from Home etc., I did 31.2 miles, no wonder my legs ached next day! Then when I got home I was covered in mud, so my wife would not let me in till she hosed me down with cold water, oh what fun.
Due to the kindness your goodself and all the wonderful people on your forum have showed me, I always look out for things for you. Not much I know, but it may be interesting to someone.
Regards from England.
Neil.

Dear Jon, thank you for your most kind comments and I do so hope all is well with you and the lovely family! I actually thought of you whilst at Hampton Court, as I did not know that you had been there, but because I was eating a homemade Cornish pasty and drinking a pint! I was in fact asked by a very posh man in an Aston Martin jacket where I had bought the pasty from, he was quite taken aback when I told him i made it!
Hampton Court is of course a National treasure, you are lucky enough to have been there as I have many times. Even if I did 20 Articles just on the grounds and gardens it would not do it justice, let alone inside the Palace itself.
Glad you enjoyed it my friend.
Regards.
Neil.

Neil, you never disappoint us! I feel as though I were with you, even with the rain and mud.

In photo #7 I see Japanese Fatsia. It's the green leaf plant. At least that is what I called it back in the 1970's when I had several containers of it. I loved those plants.

The coleus are beautiful...but, then, so is every flower and photo you've shared with us.
Thank you!
Becky

Dear Ladies, it is a pleasure! Just a shame it was such a miserable an wet day until late afternoon, but it was getting late by then. Hampton Court always sends a shiver down me as you walk on the same lawn as Queen Anne Boleyn did charged with treason in 1536 and rowed down the River Thames which is at the bottom of the north long water, to the Tower of London. Two days later she was executed on Tower Green. A few more followed her to the same fate, and many other people as well.
Even on a good day, the cold wind off the Thames blows up the long water, quite strange!
Glad you enjoyed part1, i hope to see you in part 2.
Regards.
Neil.

As always, what a fantastic tour you've shared with us! Thumbs up The horse and dog are incredible! Lilies are some of my favorite flowers and these are so beautiful. Delphiniums are a plant that I've recently added to my favorites list too. Thanks for enduring the miserable weather and bringing us along on your tour.
