lol, I haven't named it yet - except I guess it is called "my rock". hmmmm, Myra Rock? Handy is ok too. When I start rocking it back and forth on the cutting board smushing stuff, it could be a Rockette.

But what do you use underneath, to grind stuff with the rock? Just a cutting board? I think I'm starting to see a market for all those rocks that I've been pulling out of the garden... maybe if I pre-named them I could charge extra!!

Looking at the news photos coming out of parts of NY state and the northern UP, I think the glacier may be making a comeback Crying

yes, for most things I use a wooden cutting board, for hard spices I use a hard plastic cutting board. I'm been making a lot of Indian dishes lately and I grind the spices with the rock and then toast them. Things like peppercorns and cloves need a harder surface than wood but softer things like garlic and ginger work fine on wood.

Incredible news stories coming out of northern NY, I can't even imagine what that much snow would be like. Stay warm and safe all you northeners.

Well, you can't call it a "Pet Rock", that's already been done ... Sticking tongue out

You would have to find a really good marketing name, but folks bought a whole lot of Pet Rocks, you may have something there.

I'd love to use a rock, with all the flavors and seasonings Jonna uses it for, in a pot of soup!

Aha! Look what I just found: http://www.rachaelraymag.com/r...

An old boss of mine used to freeze any and all leftovers - vegetables, chicken, ham, sausage, rice etc. and once a month he'd make his "Bachelor's Soup".

Arlene ...

When I volunteered at the San Jose Heritage Rose garden, once a month we would make "stone soup" for all of the volunteers. Everyone brought something for the soup pot and one of the volunteers who was an incredible cook would make soup while the rest of us worked. It was always wonderful soup.

Smiles,
Lyn

My wife and I are busy making 4 gal. of my special, turnip green soup. Once a year, when it finally gets cool/cold, we make a batch for our tailgaters. Tomorrow will be our last home game and the weather will be great soup-weather.

Mmm sounds great, Ken. Think I'll drag out the big ol' soup pot this weekend, too.

We make Stone Soup at the school out of our harvest from the kids' garden each year before the holidays. Each grade has their own bed, so they all contribute some thing to the soup, the cafeteria ladies cook it up for us, and everyone has some soup for lunch on the last day of school before the holidays. The teachers all tell the kids the Stone Soup story before lunch, and it's a really neat holiday event, in its 3rd year now.

This is the version of the Stone Soup story that I knew: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S...

Arlene ... the secret ingredient in stone soup is kindness.

I do my own version of Bachelor's Soup at the end of the month when my produce is looking less that appetizing. All of it lands in the soup pot and then is frozen for future use.

Lyn

I agree.

We enjoy soups that have led previous lives as a pot of meatballs and sausages, then pasta with the meatballs, then soup with the leftovers and more tomatoes.

After my wife and I had a "test" of the soup (supper), I bagged up two gallons for tomorrow's tailgate and am freezing eight quarts for winter use. If I must say so, the soup was really, really good.

Go Dawgs!

Hmmmmm....I'm thinking of maybe going with a dual boxing theme here - in the manner of George Foreman and the esteemed Signor Balboa:

Rocky I, Rocky II, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Rocky V, Rocky VI, Rocky VII, Rocky VIII, Rocky IX, Rocky X, Rocky XII, Rocky XIII, Rocky XIV, Rocky XV, Rocky XVI, Rocky XVII, Rocky XVIII, Rocky XIX, Rocky XX, Rocky XXI, Rocky XXII, Rocky XXIII, Rocky XXIV, Rocky XXV, Rocky XXVII, Rocky XXVIII, Rocky XXIX, Rocky XXX (no...no! that's not what I meant...), Rocky XXXI, Rocky XXXII, and so on.

We have a lot of rocks around here. But it seems a rather impractical idea and I'm not sure I could get it to fly with the gardener in residence.
