I have a short list of Japanese irises I ordered from Aitken's and still don't know where I will plant them. I'm running out of space! These are what I ordered:

Maine Charm
Margo-No-Sakura
Cascade Rain
Lady in Pink

I'm looking forward to doing some crosses with these in the future Smiling .

Hey Connie you know if you run out of room there you can always plant here. Just had to do this the devil made me do it. Nay I did it.

D

You know the JI that we knew was wrong the broken color one. I found out the true name not Jodi's whatever but wounded dragon.

Dee you know I am going to make you take all of my extra stuff (JIs) I can't let the clumps get too big or they die real quick. Even if you didn't want them I would sneak over and dump them on your porch lol! There are a lot of plants I am willing to compost but Jis aren't one of them.

And no, I don't think Wounded Dragon as the form is quite different. The Jodie whatsit has a flat open form and Wounded Dragon has an arched form (drooping) and a lot more white (about equal white and purple). I didn't find a photo of WD on the internet but there is a colored plate (#23) in Dr. McEwen's book.

I bought the Jodie thing from Garland Nursery so you know it is incorrect! I like Garland but these generalists just don't know the difference and they don't care.

Here is my Jodie thingie again and it had the name "Activity" on the label Rolling on the floor laughing . I think I have seen this iris under 3 different names now Confused .

D, Pard, That Jodie/Dragony thingy is a JI? I don't recall seeing a six fall pirouetty form before. It's very nice. By the way is there a name for Iris or JI with that "pirouette" form? Like Japanese Pinwheel.

The PNW left over sale will be listed on Cubits with a link from here to the list.

Any time after 9-16 because the sale is the 16th, then I must bring all home, sort them, do an inventory and get to the gal that does the computer part. It is a fast sale, we will post half the iris in the AM and half in the PM to give everyone the same chance. Paypal and credit cards.

D

Well then Jodie's Song is just going to stay broken...and thank you Connie for all you do for the club and myself.

I really like how Jo does those collages, before she buys anything. I've asked her to do a couple for me.

Yes, Japanese iris. The form is probably best described as horizontally flared. (Referring to the Jodie thingy).

Hard to tell, I don't see any white splashes on Todd's and I have seen photos of mine with the name Jodlesong. It is not registered under any of these names that I have seen tacked to it. It is simply one of those irises produced and sold on the mass market. In my 15 years or so of growing JIs I have yet to see a reputable grower sell it. You find it in the big box stores and garden centers.

Right, Connie. It's not a registered one. But the name Jodies something doesn't match anything in the registry, and I know Jodlesong has been sold by so many places, so I just thought maybe. Personally it's not my favorite, anyway, any of it's variants.

Bev how could you go to a sale and get so few, I usually get at least 100+, and each year I swear I will be good and not buy any more....

D

But it is hard with all the big hybridizers donating to our sale

We have a members only auction with ordered plants + donated plants from members gardens. those are not all new but some people order different things. Our regular iris sale to the public is the Sat. before. I ordered a few plants. I don't need more plants! Still working on weeding while nursing a sore shoulder. John has been doing most of the weeding by himself & he should not have to do this.

How was the growing season in the PNW this year? I've received just one of two orders from Oregon so far, but the rhizomes seemed smaller than average again, pretty similar in condition to last year's. Could just be a matter of different varieties, but the rhizomes from Superstition were as big as ever. Not complaining, just curious.
