How nice of him to help you! He's a good looking young man. I've always loved the look of long hair on guys.

Do you have tree faces all the way around the tree cluster?

He's a great young man with a unique personality. His brother who is 18 is a great guy also. He mowed this week. They are as different as night and day. I only have faces on three trunks of the oak but have them a couple of other places on trees in the garden. I'm so grateful for my boys but feel a little melancholy as they are now grown.

You must have raised your family right, and they passed it along to their kids. Wonderful when teenagers behave that well.

He is ok, but will see the Dr. on Mon. if he can get an appointment. Glad you bought stuff, even a TB, ha ha. While it is a Schreiner iris, it came from Rocky Top Gardens. Bob is getting back into SDBs isn't he. I got a report over the phone from Barbara.

Lucy what happen with John...or is it like us, our age more than anything?

I just noticed your badge about UK how did that come into play?

Our auction is the 20th of August and then our sale is the 10th of Sept. With all I have ordered doubtful I will get much of anything at the auction and few at the sale, unless some of the ones I have lost shows up.

He came down ill, He is our driver so no go to the auction. He drove to church this morning (I'm afraid that I slept in) so feeling better. The British badge is because I am in that forum. I have been to the UK on history & garden tours (same flight time as CA trip for those who fly west.). I put the NE badge up as it seemed easier than MA.

We had a batch of rain all night. Easier to pull weeds?

Missed seeing you at the auction, Lucy. Glad John is okay!! Yes, Bob was scoffing up SDBs and MTBs like mad. I never knew Snow Tree was his!!! Duh. I know him mostly for his daylilies. Jan is a great auctioner but way too easy! I know so many great hybridizers personally. You and John included! I am a very lucky girl! Sometimes I feel like pinching myself. Hilarious! I was telling Debby yesterday what you bring to this forum, Lucy: the rich history of the iris growers and hybridizers in the northeast (and further) which few know about. So happy you are here!

Of course, Phil and Debby's mother bid against me on many more species, etc. that I wanted (Marion is 'willing' me one of Jan & Marty's delphiniums Hilarious! ) but I can always beg a piece from those two in a few years for free! This is an amazingly giving group. Just wish Polly lived closer. The Maine group was well represented! ISM is theirs too.

You should have seen the car. Three serious gardeners. We went to 2 garden centers on the way.

I bought 5 giant astilbes for the stream area I'm about to try to plant, a new coreopsis and another terrestrial orchid. Then we have a WNEIS (pronounced wee-neez) auction/picnic next week so we took any irises that didn't sell in the car. I did have room for my feet though (I usually don't on these outings).

Oh funny story! I jumped in the car at 7AM after spending two hours deadheading, orchid watering and getting my lunch ready. Grabbed all my stuff and jumped in the car. An hour later, I realized I had forgotten my shoes!!!! So I went barefoot all day! Rolling on the floor laughing

LOL.I am just fascinated by the photos of the iris sale.
Boy am I a fish out of water where this end of the gardening world is. Nice rizomes in the middle photo.
DD just planted pieces of tubers , some jist laying on the ground.,and they have teeny green shoots. I had no idea the plant was so hardy.
I'll be on the otherside of the grass before I see those bloom.

I'll say! Especially if they're tall beardeds!
OMG, Debby just came by with two big goatsbeards and an astilbe for the woods area and a JI I asked for a while back. Got all 26 new plants in. Where can that JI go???

Glad that everyone had a good time. We buy irises for the auction & people add their newer ones. Older plants go to our sale (ISM) to the public, leftovers came to a sale table yesterday & then left for WNEIS. ISM web site is www.massirises.org. Paul Black will be the speaker at our Nov. 5 meeting. Food strictly potluck. People are nice enough to visit from weveral clubs/
JoAnne, for isolation, try the gentleman who lives in Northern VT. & has to drive a loong way to get to the auction which is near Foxborough MA.

I wished I lived closer too, Kath. We had our auction today also. I did spend 28.00.

The head of our AIS division, and the treasurer were running the auction. They had some Japanese from Ensata Gardens. My friend Mittsy asked if the JIs were three or six falls, and both the president and treasurer looked at her like she was nuts, and said they're Ensatas. They're always 6 falls. OKKKKKKKK.

And they're all high up judges. They're not on the internet, and really stuck on their beliefs. The one insists that Ensatas won't grow anywhere but Upstate NY. Of course now who knows what she's talking about. They never call them Japanese irises.

Next time I'll have to print a pic of your place and show them. I bet they won't believe you don't live in Upstate NY. Although you almost do.

But, I guess I like your idea best. Read all about it, 8/2012.
