Your suggestion is a good one, but there's one slight downside to ordering any kind of living plant or otherwise, and that is you are at the mercy of someone else picking your materials. That's where going to the nursery and picking your own can make a difference. As a Consulting Rosarian, I've seen this happen too many times when folks order a rose online and are disappointed with the plant they receive.
