Though I like roses very much, I am having just one plant in a pot. My friend gave me a cutting from his monster plant that had grown so big on his balcony to have a show of >300 flowers at one time! It does not have any aroma. My favourite though is that sweet-scented rose. A neighbour had given me hers some years ago. It was doing well for some years in my yard and then it dried somehow. Despite all that, I'm not a great 'growing fan' of roses mainly because of the thorns. Handling the cuttings during pruning is one thing I do not like, to be honest and there is no proper place to dispose the unwanted cuttings. I have also got scratched by the thorns during weeding and digging the soil around it... somehow I can live without having roses... Wanted to show you the one plant I have. I do not know what variety it is. Not a climber, but it can grow tall. My friend told me how difficult it was to prune his plant down and dispose 4-5 years ago, that is when he gave me 4 cuttings - I gave off 3.

Welcome to the rose forum. Your rose is lovely! Somebody here may be able to tell you which rose it is.

There are roses out there that are both sweet scented AND thornless, Dinu! Don't give up on roses just yet! And not all of them grow huge, either. Some stay a very manageable 2-3 feet tall.
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.

You're right, Cindi. When I searched our database for roses that are fragrant and thornless or almost thornless, I got a list of 216 roses.

That's interesting zuzu. Are climbing roses classified separately?

Unfortunately, finding a list of all of the climbers in our database is not a simple process. Many fall into the large-flowered climber category, but others are listed as climbing hybrid teas or floribundas, species roses, hybrid multifloras, etc.
