I just got an Aloe polyphylla via mail order. Looks pretty happy. Anyone ever grow this? Any neat tricks?

@Stush2019 has grown them from seed and I have two babies growing right now. It will be a while before they start to spiral.

Well, right now, I'm worried more about the little guy surviving than spiraling!

Kate,
These guys love more water than other Aloes. The soil must be free draining so no water can collect. During summer they may need water every day. I just got another batch of seeds which I have more than 40 plants. Takes 4 years to see spiraling. Don't let the temp go below 30 and if so, never water at that low temp. I don't know what the lowest they could go. Maybe to 25 but I would get it covered up. Your area heat may be a bigger problem. No direct sun only partial. Planted on a side of a hill for good drainage. Got to show us a picture of it. Also good for your record to check back on.

OK, I bought him his own pot, some sponge rock to mix into my coir-based potting soil I make for succulents, and am prepared to move him around if he isn't happy. I don't think temps here ever get under 30 (unless it's one freak night...if that's the case, I have A LOT of plants to bring inside!) I am worried about the heat and humidity. And here are some pictures, what do you think? It looks a little pitiful, maybe due to shipping. Since then, I've had it next to a sunny window in our 76 degree house...have watered it...the fork in the picture is for scale (I'm not going to eat it! :D )

Kate its so pretty!! Where did you purchase it? I had a couple young ones from Stush but I wasn't able to keep them alive, sadly too much going on I guess, for me to keep them appropriately watered Thumbs down

Hi! Thanks for the info and the link, I will get right to reading! I purchased it from an Etsy shop:

https://www.etsy.com/shop/Gree...

I don't think she has any left in stock....:( but maybe she will again. She was really easy to deal with.

Hi Stush, it DID look kindof variegated then, but now it doesn't! Very odd and mysterious critter. Will post picture tomorrow. Merry Xmas!

I ordered 10 seeds of Aloe poly from China and so far I got at least 5 different kinds. Very interesting. Some just like I grew before and some with teeth and almost variegated. Some with a purple haze. Got almost 50% germination rate. If any one wants, I plan on giving them out for postage also but I want to hold on to them a little longer so they could make the trip.
