Planted three more different kaempherias today. They looked pretty bad after travel from Houston which took 5 days for some strange reason. I hope they'll start to grow again as the leaves look like they've had it.

I wonder if they'll make it. Should I cut the leaves off and wait for new ones to come out?

Hey Fred, how are those Ginger doing? Every time I visit the forum I coming here to look at that amazing foliage. There aren't many plants that I try, emphasis on try, to overwinter in pots but 'Silver Spot' definitely tops my list now.

Hi Evan,
despite the five days in the mail and the hot back of a mail truck, my gingers survived and are sprouting out new growth. I'm pleased. I had also ordered another kaempferia variety named 'alva' which they didn't have but I received a call yesterday from parched Texas that they found one and are shipping it. The nursery is struggling because their lake has dried up and they need to handwater everything lest everything dies. That's how the alva came into view.

My other big gingers and heliconias are all doing great and are in bloom.

Fred

Glad to hear they're thriving! Couldn't find helconia here but did a Google image search. Talk about bringing a smile to your face. Almost needed to put on my sunglasses.

Ummm, "My other big gingers..."? Maybe 'Silver Spot' won't stay #1 for long.

When we were at Bok Tower they had these pretty plants I just loved think they were marked as false blue ginger. Do you know what I am talking about? I am having a bit of trouble finding one to buy.

I will wait till next spring so it can summer outside. I am not planing on heating the GH this winter but I was thinking how nice it would be to move all my big tropicals there for the winter instead of lugging them into an upstairs room where they will be crowded. I know I have way too many to all fit in the living area.

Because of our drought and high temps, mine looks nothing like your photo. It is blooming, tho, and has been since early June surprisingly.
