Shhhh! I smuggled this seed in from Hawaii. It was in the beach behind a tide pool on The Bid Island under a ginormous Fiddle Leag Fig tree. I have Fiddle Leaf Figs but thought it would be fun to grow one from seed. But according to Google, that's not at all what I have. It's not breadfruit either. Any guesses? It is very light on weight. I hear nothing when I shake it.

That's a pretty tree. But the seed is MUCH bigger than that. More than twice the size of a quarter.

It's an interesting looking pod whatever it is ... I found this site when googling: http://theseedsite.co.uk/db1.h... and went through A, B, C and didn't find anything that matches.

Titan Arum seed, maybe? That would be really, really cool. If your greenhouse is big enough .

The seed casing is hard as wood. But feel as if I could carve into it easily. It is smooth except for the "hairy" edges on it. There were many seeds embedded into the black and green sand. I saw one sprouting.

I have it soaking in a cup of water for now. I hope it doesn't need sea water?? Oh, also it went through the washer and dryer. I forgot and washed it along with my clothes. I won't give up though.

Gee, I remember having seeds one time that looked similar and they were large and hard/wood-like .... but for the life of me I don't remember where I got them; they could have been something I picked up while beach combing.

So Lin, you being in FL, maybe this is a type of palm?

I think Leslieray is RIGHT!!! The leaves look verrrry similar to a Fiddle Leaf Fig, especially from far below. And the beaches were littered with the "almonds".

I tasted a Malabar almond for the first time a few years ago when we were gifted some while DH was in the hospital. I think you can get them by the carton at Costco. He doesn't remember how much we liked them, as I lay beside him in bed, both of us getting nut crumbs on the bed linens.
