Coral Greenbriar??

If I am right you will need a maddock and some strong muscles to get out the huge root.

I believe this is going to be Smilax pumila, Sarsaparilla vine. Wildflower Center says it makes a good evergreen groundcover for partly shady areas and it attracts birds and mammals. The roots are used to flavor root beer and other beverages. It is low growing, only 6" to 18" and is virtually thorn less. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Greene.

Ooh, ooh, if the ID turns out to be correct - there are no photos in the database. You can add them. Hurray!

Sorry to get so excited, but I grew up drinking Sarsaparilla.
