Mornin' Sandi...........how did y'all fare with the temperature last night? We had only 32 degrees....which is OK....I say "only 32" because of the big ta-doo
made on the news about the "hard freeze" that was suppose to occur last night....the only regret I have is burning up a night's worth of propane in the greenhouse!

Oh yeah,....Linda - believe it or night....I actually saw a show (can't recall the name) the other night....for the 1st time.....that involved a "supposed country gal" who apparently is showing how the feminine gender can enjoy the outdoor rough stuff.......like hog huntin'......and, in this case,......that's just what she was doin'.........in the vicinity of New Orleans. I watched about 10 minutes of it and realized that this gal wasn't REALLY a country gal....but a wannabe celebrity who tagged along with rural folks/guides that exposed some of the outdoor entertainment/sustainment that goes on in various areas of our American Country......I thought that pehaps she really needed to participate in the kind of activity described by the late Jerry Reed's song "Amos Moses"
......(only that one of the lines be changed to......"tie a rope around 'er neck and throw 'er in the swamp")......alligator bait on a Louisiana bayou Rolling my eyes.

It was 37 here. I'm growing weary turning on heaters and wrapping ghs with bubble wrap because the weather guys scare us about the freeze coming. I know I should be relieved, but I hate wasting the electricity...like you do wasting the propane. One good thing is I've probably had time to save most of the plants I usually let die because I didn't have time to get them in before freeze.

DH is addicted to "Cops." It used to be on at 6:30 every night when we were eating dinner. It was so bad, I'd shout "tres, tres" because it was the third time we'd seen a particular episode. Sometimes I'd yell "quatro." Blessedly, the cable stations changed and we no longer got that station! We tease about it all the time. If I ever disappear, my family will know he finally found something he could use on one of those shows!

Yeah...those cop, CSI & detective shows are all over TV. Some non-reality types of crime shows aren't too bad. But really too many of them. Why is society so fascinated with crime, I wonder? Why not more gardening shows? Well, I know on cable/satellite there is a little bit...we only have broadcast TV. On PBS, there's that Allen guy...I'm not fond of that one. Then there's one on PBS on Saturdays that I watch sometimes. Lee, too bad they didn't unexpectedly come upon a herd of wild hogs...that "country gal" would've been a sight if they charged at her!

Linda, have you ever watched Central Texas Gardener? You can watch the shows on the website. Lots of good gardening tips. You'd probably like it. Click on some of the past shows.

Giving a power point presentation tomorrow morning for Violet Crown Garden Club's Christmas program. I'm dragging DH along to set up the laptop for me. Have this fear of something going wrong and not being able to find the presentation on the computer!
I have to find time to do a little Xmas shopping too... It's hard to think about Xmas when we're running the AC in the car!

I'll remember to add that little hammer next time....!

Thought I'd check in. Computer problems...got to take it in now. I hate this! All these high-tech things come with more problems. The wild hogs hit again on the slope by the shed. Not as bad, but I really don't need this. And a rooster has adopted us. Seems like he's always around...guess he thinks he belongs here now. Since we feed birds and cats, he won't starve around here...guess that's why he likes the place. Not the first time I've unintentionally fed a rooster.

So sorry about your computer. Hope it doesn't take long to get it fixed.
You need to train the rooster to be an attack bird and get him after those hogs~! I think a good name for him would be Earl!

It's going to be in the 70s today and the high 70s tomorrow! We haven't had rain in a long time. I finally watered the front yard yesterday. Guess I'll have to water out back today. We've lost a lot of our grass due to flooding from neighbors' "re-configuration" of their landscaping. Every time it rains, the water shoots off their wall on the side yard and floods our backyard on one side.

We had to drive our neighbors to the airport yesterday morning before dawn....in two vehicles. Six of them going for 2 weeks in Hawaii. I took two naps yesterday..and I'm still complaining about losing a whole day of my life! We bought new cell phones a couple of days ago...and it'll take me a long time to figure out what they will do. Had planned to play with mine yesterday...but too tired.

I cut down a lot of plants in the front beds. Getting ready to re-do beds by the sidewalk. Have a plan to take out anything that gets "tall" in that bed.

Hope everyone's ready for the Holidays and that Linda has her computer back soon!

I still have it. We decided to wait, since they said chances are they might not get it done before closing down for Christmas anyway. In the meantime, DH was trying a few things he thought might help. Our fog last night came with just a little drip-drip for a short time. But yeah, it's been a long time since the last rain. On the S.A. news, they said they have had less than 9/10" since late in September. I just hate watering so often in the winter!

Was it the same neighbors that flood as went to Hawaii? I could imagine you "reconfiguring" their yard while away

We had a new airconditioner put in to take advantage of the rebates. The bonus is all that lovely cardboard to expand the raised bed!

Hey, I like that! Now, how many people would describe leftover cardboard as lovely? Only diehard composters or lasagna gardeners! I used to get excited over the veggie trimmings and eggshells on Thanksgiving and Christmas and wish I could somehow get any veggie trimmings from every single family in the area who had them. Not to mention, I like to get fishing people to give me the fish stuff left after the fish were cleaned. The one annoying habit that really gets me lately is that the rooster scatters my compost pile constantly. Never had one of those composting things that really truly keeps all critters out, but I guess I'll have to, since the yard is now rooster territory. We've had free-range chickens wandering the property from time to time, but none ever adopted us before. Although I did kind of feed the rooster our ex-neighbors abandoned until it disappeared. It really liked the cat food I put out for their abandoned cats.

Anna...not the same neighbors....like the idea tho! We're going to hit 82 this afternoon. I spent yesterday potting brug cuttings that had water roots and were sprouting leaves. I had them rooting on my kitchen sill. I just couldn't leave them there for Xmas. I have a spot for a veggie garden now. Just waiting for spring....

Linda, I know next to nothing about the computer...but have you defragged it lately? Mine will run slowly and I know it's that time again. If you're talking about a composter that you have to crank.....they get fire ants. There's always something to annoy gardeners, isn't there? I've been using the shredded checks and bills for some of my beds. Have to keep it wet at first to keep it from flying over the fence. Did you know city of Austin says it's illegal to pick up anyone's bagged leaves at the curb without permission? And nothing once it's in the recycle bins...

We bought new phones. I never bothered to learn the features of the one I already had. Now I'm stuck looking at tutorials on the computer! Determined to figure it out.

Today's our 41st anniversary. I surely must have been a child bride..... It just doesn't seem like that long! Oh wait, I just looked in the mirror.......I stand corrected.

We defragged and threw out some useless programs...unfortunately it didn't help. Computer from time to time turns itself off and then back on...or freezes up.
I'm talking about some kind of composter (not sure what kind) that's enclosed enough to keep all critters of a certain size out. Right now I just have something with some boards on four sides, which doesn't seem to keep Mr. Rooster from throwing that stuff out. Not the cranking kind, though...I agree, not a good idea. Well, we just have the garbage cans here now. One extremely large can (for automated pickup) and if needed we can put out one or two more of your our own cans as long as the size is not too big. No garbage recycling, no brush pickup done out here (unless you can get it broken down and put in the cans. That is mostly for the metropolitan areas. Darn shame. I've got a lot of brush that needs to be dealt with...so far I'm just keeping it out of the way. But recenltly a company that was working on the vacant place next door threw a lot of brush (and some trash) into the creek bed. That means whenever the creek is flooded the stuff in the creek will end up clogging up the area where the large drainage pipes go under the street and the water in the creek will be partly blocked by all the debris. Not a good thing. Not that we're likely to have a flooded creek anytime soon, with the drought getting so bad.

What is the rational? I hope that doesn't happen here. I am always looking for some nicely mulched leaves.
