Merry Mayshine is thinking really hard about getting ready to bloom. I give it another week or so...

A pretty little pink one and Merry Mayshine looks nicely maroon. I like!

This is the 3rd spring for the Peonies in my garden, and I'm going to see my first real show this year! I'm seeing lots of buds, and am so excited! Mine are all NOIDs I've received from gardening friends over the years, but I think this is the year I need to add some nice cultivars.

Oh my! I've been looking through Hollingsworth selections, looks like I may be in trouble, LOL.

It's so easy to get in trouble around here, isn't it? Whistling

If you really want to get in trouble look at Carsten Burkhart's website. Some of the information links to other sites but some just explain what the peony appears. Literally thousands of eye candy. Luckily for me some are not imported to this country.

Carsten's website is what got me interested in collecting peonies hybridized in Iowa. I think I have three or four now.... Yes, it is very dangerous eye candy. Smiling

Merry Mayshine popped today! This is in its second year blooming for me. I got this in the first Hollingsworth Coop we did on Dave's Garden.

My first tree peony ever - Zhu Sha Lei. Purchased about 12 years ago from Blains Farm and Fleet in Waterloo Iowa. It was an experiment to see if it would live under a black walnut tree. It did and still does. Smiling It won't be long and we'll be in the thick of peony season in Iowa. Smiling Now watch it rain. LOL

Beautiful! You know, I got that peony too and it never ever came up. I need to do some digging around.

I need to get out with a camera one of these nights. I have so many weeds it's hard to take. Quite overwhelming in fact at the moment. Why don't the deer eat the weeds??? Sad

Merry Mayshine is cheerful. Peonies, lilacs and a kitty in the background. Life doesn't get much better.

I agree Merry Mayshine is a peony that just makes you smile!

Really surprising that your tree peony lived - and continues to - under the black walnut. Determined little bugger!

Thanks guys! Smiling Regarding Black Walnuts, I have two tree peonies growing under them and three or four regular peonies. Then there is the hosta, lilies, daylily, ferns, poppy, well, you get the idea. Smiling BW's get a bad rap, they are a whole lot better trees to grow things under than Maples. Smiling

Gee, I learned something then today. I never had a black walnut so I have no first hand experience - just heard lots of stories. What a pretty picture!

BW's have tap roots so you have less root competition with them than with most trees. Smiling However, they do reseed at will. Smiling LOL

The tree peony Yagumo bloomed today. I need to move it. It is in root competition with a maple tree and it will eventually lose.

Alana, O Tree Peony Queen, when do you recommend moving a tree peony?? Any certain things I need to do?? :)
