Ya know ... semps like growing in the sand here. Sandbox is not such a bad place. I've enjoyed looking at the photos though as I've failed to visit the semps forum lately.

Lynn, My semps I got from you all did very well except the little fuzzy one ... anyway I think I got them from you. Winter 2013 was extreme and I didn't plant them in ground, but containers. The other two varieties did survive, and that's good to know for putting them in hyper-tufa containers to winter through in the cold zone.

I know goldfinch4 grows some in hypertufa containers, and they do very well. I would love to see photos if you can.

I made the funny face hyper-tufa container and tried using those fuzzy white ones. I think you sent three or four. I used two in the funny face container and left the others in a large container. All died through last winter. I had to put others in the funny face container, and am waiting for it to fill out. Hopefully those survive this winter. Once they look better, will post photos, but that may be December, 2015 as I get so busy in spring and summer that I seldom get here unless I have a question. Sad

The white ones as the eyes.

P.S. sorry to slightly high-jack this thread, but I heard you can do that in the sandbox.

I bought some variagated cat grass seeds ... my cats love cat grass. I made a couple small hyper-tufa containers for growing cat grass indoors, and once the seeds have sprouted, I do hope to post a photo of that in the pets forum here. We'll see how it goes in spring for photos and if they haven't rotted out from too much rain that we've had. I've considered covering all my containers with clear plastic over my semps.

oh man! C'mon--please take some pictures anyway--I desperately want to see what a funny face container is and I promise I wont mind if it's not filled out or doesn't 'look good'

I'll show you my funny face not-quite-a-container--that is unplanted and doesn't look good either, but someday it will,
if you show me yours Smiling

Green Grin! Rolling on the floor laughing
Waiting to see if Kayleigh takes the bait. :whistling:

Mystery solved on why this thread went to the Sandbox.
Erwin had a photo from the datase in his comment. When I deleted the incorrect semp from the database it automatically sent the post to the Sandbox. Sad

Rolling on the floor laughing I was going to quit posting here, so you all could get back to the subject at hand. But I did hear that this weekend is supposed to be in the 60ies. This weather is something! Freezing one day, warm the next. I'll see if I can snap a quick shot. But I am certainly no photographer like you are dirtdorphins. You have some amazing photos.

Wahoo Hurray! Kayliegh took the bait. Good work dirtdorphins.

I already asked Dave if it could be sent back, but it is not possible, since the photo in question was deleted from the database.
But I did copy and paste a quote from the first post in the sandbox thread, then pasted it into the new thread in the Sempervivum Forum.
We can carry on the discussion here. Please stay on topic in these important research threads.

Meanwhile, we can carry on with the fun going on here. Hurray!

And, I can't wait to see the funny face of any photo quality!

Thank you Kayliegh!

Hi fans, it's really funny here.

We have really a big chaos in names and plants by Sempervivum cultivars. I am really sad about :-(

Lynn, no problem you can use my pictures. I thought I gave you this OK some times ago?
The pictures at the homepage from your links showing all the wrong plant.

There are other different Sempervivum in Europe and in the U.S. with the same name.
I don't know if it's a solution to name them 'Santino' type US and type Europe? I don't know... sounds not good...

Sometimes I am sad about my English. It's no the best, but I tink you will understand all my words and please forgive me for my mistakes :-D

Best wishes from Germany :-)

PS: Attached a picture from 19.8.2006 - we got this beauty from the breeder Martin Haberer. It's very similar to 'Caldera' and 'Wichita'
