I am sad to announce that the Sempervivum 'Red Lion' that I have is an incorrect plant. Anyone that has received it from me, please mark it as a NOID. I am so sorry for the confusion and disappointment.

With the help of Erwin Geiger I have found what the correct plant should look like, and a source for the correct 'Red Lion'.
Here is the updated entry for 'Red Lion'.
This sempervivum is small and has prominent silver cilia long the leaf edges. Bright red in the spring.

This photo was taken at Perennial Obsessions and is correct.

Open for discussion.
I see that it looks like Erwin, Cynda and Patty have the correct semp.

I will have to check mine and get a picture. May have gotten mine from Chris, I'll see. Hope the rain lets up in the morning.

I know I have it, but for some reason its not in my list...and that's where I would have had notes about where I purchased it from Thumbs down Oh well, mine is one of my largest semps, so I know its a NOID if this is supposed to be small
Lynn what about "red lion variegated" since it came off of the wrong plant will it still be called that?

Patty has the correct 'Red Lion', and the variegated form is correct. I got variegated form from Young's, and it is correct. So far it is staying variegated.
Patty has the correct 'Red Lion' and I believe it has also produced some variegated form offsets. @Patty.

Patty you gave me Red lion variegated, but I already had my "red lion" don't remember where I got it from but I've had it for a couple years.
The description says its small and mine is 5 inches across here is a photo of what I have, looks nothing like the photo in database. Mine is large and smooth (no cilia) and leaf shape looks different

Greg, I think you got it from me last year, and it is not the correct semp.
Your photo is lovely.

We have so many others Chris.

It's a great opportunity to put them out front in the dry garden. It will show its self off nicely out there.

Lynn and Chris are your plants of this also large sized?? Personally I've decided I'm keeping my labels, but adding a ? so I know that its a NOID but also that it was called 'Red Lion' at one point Whistling Its always sad to me when this happens! I tip my hat to you.

Both Chris and I have the large and incorrect 'Red Lion'.
It is always sad for us when this happens. For me it just means that in the spring I will add a new semp in the vacant spot in the bed. I will be sure to do my home work before choosing a replacement. Smiling

Lynn that's a good way to look at it! I always feel like I've lost an investment, but really this is one of my fav semps - it changes color so nicely! (Also I never replied to you but yes, I think I got this one from either you or Chris)
I'm feeling concerned about my trough beds, I haven't been over there since the ice melted and these rains began, I'm hoping they aren't under too much water - it makes me feel like a bad semp dad, and I won't be able to get over there until Monday...I'm just hoping for the best (nothing to be done about them anyway!) Rolling on the floor laughing

Don't fret, Greg. I am very close in proximity with my semp bed and I just took a look at the semps out there after 3 days of mostly rain and they look a little water-logged. Won't do too much for them as I am of the Tuff Love approach and there might be more rain so they will have to tough it out. Those that make it will get extra attention from me come Spring as a reward... Whistling

...My name is Bev and...Yes, I am a bad semp Mama...Thank you all for having me here today...

Well I just came in from weeding in the beautiful 53°F sunshine. The weather we have been having has been heaving the plants out of the ground because of the freezing, thawing and heavy rains. Perfect for weed seed germination. Rolling my eyes.

Thankful to be able to say that most semps are fairing well. Had to push some back down in the soil to cover exposed roots, a few are rotting, but most are hanging in there. I will not try to save the rotting ones. This will be survival of the fittest.

Nope, I don't think you are a bad semp mom Bev. Green Grin!

I agree with this approach. Besides kneeling over on brick wall to save rosettes are hard on my old aching knees... Sad

My poor babies are definitely "on their own" to survive if they can. We are going from 62 degrees today to 2-6 inches of snow on Sunday-Monday. Who knows what comes next. Hoping they like the water the get, as I am trying to see how they survive without my intervention. Besides for next several days I am limited to no bending and no lifting until my cataract surgery heals. Everything blurry today but .....

I agree with all of you in that we have to give some tough love.
