Oh yeah, take tons of pictures!! Mags, DonnaMack and I sat with the Adelman's for dinner last June at the Peony Convention in Janesville, WI. They are really sweet people.
It will really be a busy time for the Adelman's and probably everybody else around there with the American Peony Society Convention there in Oregon this year. It sounds like a beautiful place to have it. Pard, I am living this through your eyes, so please take a ton of pictures. We don't get the rich colors like you guys do. So do take us on the walk with you. I can hardly wait!
Yes. It has a heady old fashioned rose fragrance to it. It is absolutely one of my favorite. Probably because it's a old cultivar and the fragrance is not bred out of it. My other favorite with a fragrace is Big Ben (beautiful deep fuschia-pink). Once Big Ben is opened completely, it is so pretty. I think Big Ben has that rose smell too but different than Mme de Verneille. May be a slightly spicy smells on Big Ben.
Now this peony is a no id that my hairdresser gave me. It has beautiful large flowers with multi layers of petals, which I love but absolutely NO fragrance! :(
Peonies are running late due to the funky spring weather around here but many are about to burst open. I see a few in this area but next week should be a show.
Yeah, most years I have peonies blooming (Roselette & Fernleaf) at the end of March beginning of April, but not this year. they are all going to pop at once, which is too bad, because you really can't enjoy them as much.
It's raining raining raining here. I came to get a preview. Nothing open yet but REALLY close. Hope they don't all get leggy but they are all caged up (early for me and I'm proud). Also proud that one of my species peonies (P. emodi) is growing a bud in the shade garden. http://bit.ly/lePv3i
More soon I hope!
