Just curious to see how everyone did with their new peonies. Peony time is slowly but surely approaching here in the North, but hoping to see what those big roots from last fall mounted to in your gardens. Do show us!

OGR 'Hot Chocolate' is such a beauty! And all peonies get more awesome with age. Each year they are such a treat, increasing their blooms as they settle in.

It's nice to see them coming into season for us. I've got buds, but only 'Mollis' blooming so far.

Mine aren't blooming yet but most have good growth and buds.
Does anybody know if a peony doesn't bloom by its 2nd growing season its planted too deep?
Is anybody sending out email blast for fall 2011 peony co-op?

I would at least give it to the second year. Most will have a bloom or two that first year from starts like those of Hollingsworth though. Eyes plants 1-2 inches below the soil line. Sometimes location can make a difference, they like their sun and well drained soil. They told us last year that they also don't like to compete with grass. It can stunt their growth, or make them not quite as vigorous as they would be otherwise.

Life has been a little busier here this year so I know I will not be doing a peony co-op this year, but I do know that Co-op's Mama Jack's Way has a Hollingsworth co-op going this year. There are a variety of selections too and Don Hollingsworth has some of the nicest peonies anywhere, but then you saw what he sent out last year.

I had lots that did bloom the first year from Hollingsworth. Here is a collage of the ones planted in the fall of 2010. I forgot to take shots of a couple more that bloomed including a yummy one called P. Coral Sunset. I may find more shots that I haven't labelled yet as I am behind with the journal entries.

I love ordering from Hollingsworth, especially through a coop. I have one placed for this fall through Mama Jacks coop already. I have planted 31 from them since 2008 with a mess more coming in this fall and all have bloomed but a couple. I may have killed 2 but still holding out hope as I could have just missed them blooming as I do go away sometimes. Patti

tracey i asked a question in a new thread regarding peonies in the south but no one has answered. do you who might know more about that than anyone else?

Steve has always been the most experienced with growing peonies in the south with great success. What was your question, somehow I missed it. I apologize. I'll help you if I can.

Mamajacks. Praire Charm was a lovely yellow with some deep reddish purple blush. Loved it, especially at the reduced coop price. It had several blooms, which I never expected in the first year. Thanks. Patti

This Itoh Hybrid is semi-double, light yellow with prominent red-purple flares, stigmas, sheath and filaments creamy white, carpels green, anthers yellow with small amount of pollen. Medium size flower with 20-30 petals. Sometimes irregularly toothed at petal ends. 26-30 inches in height with excellent stem strength. Bulletin #281.

did anyone here have problems with their peonies last year not coming up? don and i are studying that now as there were 2 people i know who had peonies that didn't grow.

Yeah, we had a couple tell me that from the co-op that Mags and I did that some didn't come up. I can find out which ones and let you know..
