Pic taken in Geneva, AL, Z9, a couple days ago. Is it possible to determine a species from this pic? TIA!

Gonna be hard, I think. There are a lot of different Ilex plants. This has a very traditional 'holly' look. Are you planning to deck the halls Smiling .

LOL, no, just thought it was especially attractive while in drive-thru line at Taco Bell... I've never tried to ID a 'holly' before, so if it's a confusing bunch, 1 pic prob isn't enough. TYVM!

I dunno, there are a lot of capable folks here. I'm not sure all varieties thrive in the deep south, so that may narrow the possibilities. If it's being used as a landscape plant at a fast food business, it's probably a relatively common one and someone will know. Just not me.

Yep, that's probably good info to include, TY. Isn't it funny how you have a ton of questions when trying to ID someone's plant, but can't think of a helpful fact to add when asking for one?

TY for the responses! If the consensus is that it's some version of I. cornuta, would there be any objections to uploading the pic to the plain species?

TY, Dave. If there are no objections to that ID by tomorrow, I'll do that, with a note that it may be a cultivar. That entry in the DB only has 2 pics so far.

Gee, I thought I had posted here yesterday morning but I guess I must not have hit send ... I'm old that way. Green Grin! It reminds me of I. cornuta also. We used to have a couple of different Hollies in the yard and Dwarf Burford Holly (Ilex cornuta 'Burfordii Nana') is the first one I thought of but ours were a lot smaller than the one in your photo, even without pruning. I'd also say the correct database location should be either Chinese Holly (Ilex cornuta) or if it is Burfordii this entry Burford Holly (Ilex cornuta 'Burfordii')
