Fiesta from White Flower Farms. This is a midsized pretty raspberry pink one. This bulb may be defective in some way, even though it looks to be perfectly healthy. I got two nice blooms, the other six blooms were wrinkled and tiny, as if they were somehow damaged before they emerged. I have never had this problem before, so I am giving WFF the benefit of the doubt and buying a second one. If I have the same problem with the second bulb, I will let them know that they might have a bad batch of bulbs. Did anyone else on ATP get this cultivar from WFF this season?

Braza from White Flower Farms. This is very pretty mid-sized pink raspberry colored cultivar with six buds on its single scape. The flowers seem to be heavy and want to "bow down" a little.

Color, color, color! Barbara's Fiesta and Braza are of beautiful pink. From the pic I like the Fiesta more for its color shade and texture (but they seem to be cut in vase?). Let us know how the 2nd Fiesta goes? Thanks

Thank you Barbara, Red Lion is an oldie but a goodie. Smiling

Sorry about the problem with Fiesta, it is lovely, be a shame if they all had problems. Braza is also quite pretty!

Fiat, a lot of my pictures are taken of the blooms after I've put them in vases. I grow the first year bulbs on a sunporch, and treat the Amaryllis as cut flowers, once they are in full bloom. The potted bulbs then go outside to be planted in the garden. I really don't see any difference in bloom time between leaving the scapes on the plants or putting them in water. I started doing this, years ago, when I had such a problem with fungus gnats. The only way I could prevent my dinner guests from being dive-bombed by aggressive gnats, was to keep the pots contained in an separate area. Now, I have the gnat problem under control, by keeping the soil surface dry. I've gotten used to using Amaryllis in flower arrangements, so will continue cutting them. I also use the outdoor blooms in the house as cut flowers. FYI, my first outdoor H. striatum has put up a scape. The striatum is the normally the first one to bloom. Its a bit early, but our winter has been mild, with no frost so far.

Thanks, Barbara for sharing your way of cutting flower thing. Just wondering you would cut the flower stalk when it's in full bloom (all flowers open, but none fading)? And then how long it will last in the vase?

The first bloom is past its prime as I cut the scape. The scape, itself, can last anywhere up to ten days in water, with a pitch of sugar added. I recut the end of the stem when its gets soft and replace the water as it become cloudy. But a tightly closed bud will still open, even after being cut. The cut scapes of some cultivars seem to be particularly long lived in water: Terracotta Star is a good example from this season.

Peach Melba from White Flower Farms. This is my "new" favorite cultivar of the season. The photos don't do this one justice. Huge, flat faced blooms (9 inches /23 cm across), a true peach color that sparkles in the sunlight. 3 scapes on what I would classify as a Jumbo bulb. This one was a big surprise, I wasn't expecting anything so pretty.
