Who is starting to get seed catalogues and order seeds? My first catalogue was Pinetree Seeds (I've never ordered from them). My second catalog was Baker Creek Total Seed Catalog (this catalog is like seed porn Rolling on the floor laughing )

I've order tomato seeds, and some herb seeds that need to get started early from Johnny Select Seeds.

Who else is ordering early?

Now researching how to germinate them.

I got my dozen or so seed packets from MIgardener, but probably won't get them ready to germinate before the New Year.

I've finished ordering my regular garden seeds. Other than that, I have two special order packages roaming around out there somewhere in the great holiday shipping stratosphere Rolling my eyes. , and I'm still researching wild plant additions. I hope to get that order sent out this week as it usually takes some time to receive those, too.

Linda, Pinetree is a good company, in my experience... their prices are reasonable, with somewhat smaller amounts of seed per packet than some other companies, and I've been very happy with their service and with the seed quality.

I recently ordered some seeds from Park's that were on a "special," and ordered some unusual bean seeds from "Amishland Heirloom Seed," and soon will finish up with my ordering; my seed starting doesn't start until February, though. which is not really that far away, when you think about it! Hurray!

Sandy--I've heard many good things about Pinetree...just never had the opportunity to order from them with all of the other choices available.

I really need to get my tomato seed order in from Sample Seeds. I order LOTS of seeds for our Master Gardener Plant sale, and people are looking for something a little out of the ordinary that they can't get at a local nursery or big box store. We sold a couple of thousand herb and veggie plants in less than 6 hours last year. That takes some serious planning. You can't always predict what people may want (last year, Kale, lettuce and brussels sprouts were huge). This year, we have to guess at the next "in" vegetable and herb Rolling my eyes.

LOL, Linda -- you just need to hype whatever seeds you have for them... maybe some lesser known items, like, say, salsify. (That seems like it may be the one thing I've never grown) Or, you could watch shows on the food network and find out what the chefs are pushing, I think that must be where people get a lot of their ideas about what they "should be growing." I just saw a seed catalog trying to excite interest in a red Komatsuna they just added.

They said that "Komatsuna might be the next kale".

Whenever I see "fashion" being used to sell something, I[m reminded of the beer commercial that claimed its brand was "the right beer NOW".

Here in Seattle we take good beer seriously! If you care more about fashion than the beer YOU like, you must not be a Beer Person.

Of course, when it comes to every other issue of fashion, like clothing, other people look at me, smirk, roll their eyes, and shake their heads.

I also want to order some from @jon and @abigail from The Whitinger Seed company. They did well last year!!

I got my last seed order in yesterday to Sample Seed. I don't need much for the vegetable garden this year, a few more herbs a couple of new tomatoes, (Earl of Edgecomb & Santa Maria) and pole-beans and sugar snaps.

I received my orders from Swallowtail Gardens and Outside Pride a few weeks ago. Lots of annuals and perennials. I will start the Lisianthus and Begonias this week, but nothing else gets started until mid-March.

Its -14 here right now, a good morning to be dreaming about spring.

Well, I guess most of you have heard the phrase "shell shocked", I looked at the prices of seeds and I was "seed shocked". At Burpee I was looking for some new Zinnia seed (Sahara Sunburst) a packet of 25 seed for $6.95. That comes out to .28 per seed! Wow! That just sounds crazy to me. Maybe I am even cheaper than I thought. I looked a Swallowtail and the Sahara Sunburst only came in a 250 seed pkt. and it was $13.99, that comes to .06 per seed! Still over a nickel a seed. I toss out zinnia seed like bird food (saved from last years crop). I need to be more appreciative of the seed I grow each year. I think as I age I must be stuck back in a different time zone, and price zone.

The best prices I have found are from outside pride, but you have to order 1000-5000 seed packs on many of the seeds.

Still, at 4.99, most of them save for a few years easily enough, so if its something you plant regularly and plentifully its the way to go.
