It's like they all took their plants and went home.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of forums are down in postings. My theory is to blame it on the economy. People can't afford extras like internet or are working extras jobs, homeless, etc. I've noticed even the DG Fl forum goes sometimes days without posts. I know many people left DG because they couldn't afford the membership fees and will probably make their way here eventually.

Fred: Your entryway is just gorgeous ... love those plantings!

Jim: Beautiful Hibiscus ... I had that one for years, it would grow to the roof, get knocked back in winter and come back just as beautiful each spring/summer ... until the past two winters when we had many nights in the mid 20's and some days that didn't get above the low 40's! The stump is still there but it never resprouted this year. Sad It's funny because that one was just outside the pool area on the south side of the house with some protection from other trees. There's a Snow Queen Hibiscus on the NE side of the house, out in the open with no protection and I thought it too was a goner after two fridid winters but it resprouted and is about 3' tall and wide now ... so, I guess we just never know with some plants.

Susan: Wow, that is a beautiful garden scene ... really nice!

The damage on that crinum looks like that inflicted by deer, they love to take big bites of foliage.

If deer got in here over my fence right next to the house that would surprise me a lot. They have jumped the fence but then they only nibbled on my bromeliads further away from the house and people. They are pretty shy around here and avoid people like the plague. There is plenty of wild land for them to feed on.

I agree with Lin; that is a wonderful garden picture, Susan.

Does anyone else grow datura? The flowers make wonderful picture subjects. This is my Datura fastuosa.

I have a single white. It reseeds and returns every year. The bees love it and they perfume the air at night.

I've got the straight white D. inoxia. It pops up everywhere from seed, without me ever planting it, and I weed it out where I don't want it and leave it wherever I do. I need to get better about removing those seed pods, but it's such a cool plant. Some day I'll grow the other varieties.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

I think the traffic will eventually pick up. Personally I have been without internet access for 6 days, so - no chance to post! I am enjoying everyone's pictures - and by the way, the bites on that crinum are definitely from the Lubber grasshoppers, who have now reached maturity and are getting too big to even step on.... Grumbling

Now I know why traffic was down. Hetty did not have her computer on line. It all makes sense now. ☺

BTW Hetty, the Etalka thing has resolved itself. She left the group.

You have an amazing garden, Fred. I'm lucky to have been able to get a first hand look at it.

Here are some wide shots of my garden:

I gave up on having plants around my fountain. Also had an exterior pump and filter installed. It injects clrine as needed. I have too many trees around to throw crap in the fountain and had to have a filter. I also extended the base so that not so much water splashed out.

I went through several different plants before I could find some that could take the chlorine splash. Dwarf variegated schefflera and purple queen both do well there and look good together.

Jim: Here's my fountain now. Not as fancy as yours. I have this thing pretty much automated with autorefill and filters etc

Note the bigger base.

Maryann, we need to get the FL folks back together again. Maybe September/October? I haven't had any DG contacts as I presume everybody is over here now but the SW FL forum is as quiet as a mouse.
