Bonnie, I don't believe I had any luminatas until planting a couple of new ones this summer. In browsing the data base pics, I've run across many I love! Does luminata mean "lit from within"? ...or white or light colored inside?...or however you would say that, LOL.

they do seem to have a luminous glow from within. The ones I like the most are white with the color washed over them. Even the edges of the standards and falls are rimmed in white giving the look of having an inner light source. Can you imagine a row of luminatas just as dawn breaks. smiles

Thanks all for the kind words about my pic. Smiling

Neil - I only had one luminata before this fall, Montmartre, and boy does it stand out. I think your use of "glow from within" really captures the presence they have when seen in person. Can't wait to see how my new luminatas do this spring!

I've read a few different descriptions on luminata, but I like how you described it Neal. "Lit from within".

I guess I need to get 'Lightshine' to add to the trilogy. (Got both 'Starship Enterprise' & 'Rainbow High' this year)

Keppel also has 'Mercury Rising' which is also from the Starship breeding, and would look nice w/ any of the above.

'Three Ring Circus' is another child whose pictures look nice...

Interesting to see the children...

and 'Voyager' too.

luminata is sort of a plicata in reverse. they were called 'fancy' years ago. 'Moonlit Sea' was one of the early named ones. Lighted within is a good description.

Brad, gorgeous photos you posted 2 days ago. I especially like First Pick and Berry Fulfilling, although Smoky Dawn is beautiful too (as are all of them! Hilarious! )

As usual Tom, your selections are awesome. Pledge Allegiance looks to be a bit bluer than Breakers.

Fortunate Son didn't bloom for me it's first year, so hopefully I'll get to see it this year. I just love the purple beard on it! For those of you who appreciate the older form on their irises Jewel Tone is absolutely gorgeous. My picture only hints at it's beauty, maybe I can get a better one this year. And Play With Fire surprised me, it's color was not too far from the color of Chestnuts Roasting...a very warm, almost brown tone to it's color. Rhinelander was the last of my collection to bloom, so it's definitely a late bloomer. ATP does not have a photo of Diamond Bracelet and I accidentally missed the photo on Laced Cotton, they are both Whites that I hope will bloom this year.
