I have never seen those, but they look like they would be perfect for starting seeds. I'll have to check the dollar stores nearby.

If I remember correctly you can find them at the Dollar Tree around Easter time - they hold the candy eggs.

I noticed when I was logging in seeds to my catalog I have over 500 entries! I've come to the conclusion I have too many seeds and not enough time.

I winter sowed my first batch on December 29 and then did more in subsequent days as weather and time permitted. I've maybe 35 jugs out there and that's about half of what I'll eventually do.

I still use the milk jugs -- well, they're water jugs actually, but that same kind of jug. For my twelve unnamed daylily seed types, I used quart-size jugs a friend saved for me -- she buys unsweet tea in those all summer and had lots to recycle! I put four daylily seeds in each, which left me a few of each kind to also try sowing more conventionally in warm weather.

There are about twice that many jugs out there now....

But I've been doing this for a few years now, and don't at all mind extras. I have three new beds to fill this coming year, too! Plus a whole slew of new neighbors to give plants away to, if it comes to that.

Edit-- by "my first batch" I meant, first batch this year. tee hee

It was my first year. I did not believe it could work. Or at least turn out much. I did over 150 containers. Almost every dang seed grew!!! It was an awful summer. I was stressed to the max. I can look back an laugh now. And my neighbors and friends loved me.

I bet they did!

My first year I was terrified when it snowed and froze -- I couldn't believe it would really work, but DANG!

Mine was magical. I'm a big fan of abundance when it comes to plants. Sure, I've since learned that a whole packet of seeds of each type aren't required, but that's just part of the learning curve. Smiling It's now so nice to feel the freedom of easy change; on a whim I can rip out an old section of garden and be entirely comfortable in knowing that I'll have plenty of new plants handy to fill in the fresh design.

I've one more obligation to fulfill before deadline, and then I'm getting started! Hurray!

A whole packet of seed is not required... yes, It took me a while to learn that. I never had a seed left in a packet when I first started with seeds.
