I received word today from Vi's son David that she died on December 30th. Don't have any other information, but told him I would take care of notifying us here and on the Iris Cubit. I have his email address. If anyone wants to send him a message, treemail me.

So sad to hear, it was nice that she was able to visit England this last summer once more. She was so excited to get some irises planted last summer and was looking forward to seeing them this spring. Sad indeed.

Oh -- I'm crying. Vi and I shared Irises and other things. This past fall she gifted me with two Irises -- my choice -- from Schreiner's. We were already talking about what Irises I would send her next summer. This is terrible.

I am so glad she kept her iris dreams and was looking forward to the future bloom season. I am sorry for all y'all that knew her well and will miss her most.

I posted the notice on Cubits, too. Most of us go to both sites, but some only visit the Iris Cubit.

She was so sweet. I traded some iris with her too. Sad that she won't see the iris she was looking so forward to this spring, but I agree with Tom that it is wonderful she got back home to England last fall.

One fond remembrance I have: We had a running joke, because when I would get an envelope from her it always made my cats go crazy. They would rub themselves all over her envelopes but neither of us found out why. She would always let me know when another "cat attractor" was coming my way!

Vi was rightfully proud of her son, David. Here she is with him at his military retirement ceremony.

I'm so glad that her son let us know about this. Otherwise we would just be wondering what happened.

I treemailed her Christmas week because of the storms out that way and because I hadn't seen her posting recently. Was about to send paper mail or call when her son answered me this morning.

Those of us who post regularly on the Daylily Porch Swing thread have sent our contact information to a couple of members who volunteered to be coordinators. If one of us doesn't post for awhile--usually about two weeks--and doesn't answer treemail, then a coordinator either emails or calls to check up. Something to think about.

That is very sad news! I didn't know Vi well, but enjoyed her informative posts. I'm glad she had her health to the very end so she could continue doing what she loved. I hope I can keep growing and enjoying my irises until the very end of my life. I'm sending prayers for comfort to her family. Rest In Peace Vi.
