Just might be ideal. The sun may be too hot and dry out the earth too much.

Mulching well helps with that too. But I do find that our summer heat here is pretty intense sometimes and dries up lots of thing by later afternoon, most things like a little relief that time of day. Say between 3 and 6pm. When I was in OK the wind was SO hot it dried up everything in no time. Practically impossible to grow a thing there, I think even the weeds struggled...

I have some JIs in beds too far from the house to water much, and once established, I've found they will tolerate dryer conditions than I had previously thought. They don't increase much or at all during drought, but they did hold their own, which was a big relief. They are well mulched, so that probably helped.

Frilly - that's really bad when weeds struggle!

Neal - JI's can tolerate soil that isn't moist and, since they're dormant over summer, it isn't critical. Try your best to resume watering in August. Mulch does help so much. I'd be lost without it.

@ladybugdebbie

Here's the response I received today, from Kathy Ann:

They need to be in full sun and and if the pot is crammed full then she would need to divide the pot. If she left the pot outside they should be fine. Don't water them though this winter . They will come back in the spring. Put the pot in full sum and don't divide them till after bloom time.
