I had tiarella wherryi in a shady spot between two pines. They supposedly like to be near pines. So it was shady, dry and sheltered. They did not last even one winter.

Old gardeners never die. They are just pruned and repotted.

Bob, thank you for pointing that out. That's exactly why I was creating my own databse. It's going to give me a real leg up because I was getting tired of doing all of the research. I already had figured out that the h. villosa varieties would not work in my arid climate, but had planned to do more research this winter.

I am so glad they did the work for me ... Sticking tongue out

So far, my biggest problem has been with leaf scorch due to my high summer temps and since I live at a higher elevation, full sun is different that full sun elsewhere. With the drought, I've had difficulty siting the plants.

I can't buy them locally, so I feel like I need to really hedge my bets before I purchase a plant by mail order.

The lineage info will really help a lot.

Smiles,
Lyn

Enjoy the color and seems to be doing well even with all the rain.

Looks beautiful, Julia.

All of mine were eaten down to the crown this week by a deer that found a break in the deer fence at the top of the slope. She also ate all of the strawberry plants, so I think I am going to move the heuchera bed over to that side of the garden. I don't even know if the plants will come back, but I am ever hopeful.

Grumbling Grumbling Lyn, I'm almost sure they will come back. I read some article where they cut "turkey neck" heuchera to the ground and they come back beautiful. The deer just did this for you. I'm sure you are really sad about this because you have put so much work in your gardens. Group hug

Have you ever thought of gathering seed from your heuchera and winter sow them? I did that and came up with some nice garden plants. Maybe I told you already?

No, I hadn't thought to do any winter sowing since the drought was declared. I decided that this was not a good time to add young plants to the garden.

I had planned to divide my huecheras, so in spring, I'll do that, if there is anything alive and move them to the other part of the garden. Since the drought, the dogwood tree is not providing enough afternoon shade for them in their current location and they have suffered from leaf scorch. The tree will provide less shade next season as the doe also pruned the dogwood. She feasted quite well while it was raining and I couldn't get a handyman up here to repair the deer fence.

Of course, the weeds have survived as she had better things to eat .... Hilarious!

I have never had much luck with 'Lemon Chiffon', had it 2 times and dies over winter. 'Circus' I bought as a plug one year, died over wither. However, received a start from a friend last year and it's doing well.. Hurray! Hurray!
Have you looked into any of the cuties series?

This is a nice bright green one, stays smaller for containers. The lighter ones have a tenancy to get rust. However this one is has good resistance.
I still have 'Lava Lamp', no luck with 'Marvelous Marble' here in Washington.

Julia, Thanks for the Lemon Chiffon tip.
I wanted the small leaves because the planter isnt really big.
