Hi, Everyone! Group hug

I'm a bit new here & still trying to find my way around a bit .. which leads me to ask: Do we have a Group or Forum etc for Fungi? Confused

Yes, I am a 'closet fungi photographer' Lovey dubby .. I know nothing about any of them .. except I like mushrooms: fresh, cooked & of the retail variety & grew some once from a mushroom kit.

I have some pics of some Australian Fungi & would love to share them with you .. my hubby has no passion for fungi of any kind & I get bored looking at the photos myself! Crying

Thank You! in advance!

Hi Dianne,

We don't have a place for fungi because they aren't plants. Occasionally people will ask for an identification of one or maybe someone will ask a question about it but other than that we don't have a dedicated place.

Two ideas:
You could create a blog here on ATP to share your knowledge and photos of fungi; remember to 'allow comments' to get the conversation going.
Or you might start a Cubit for Fungi over on ATP's sister site Cubits.org - lots of free space there to talk about things both plant and non-plant - then add a post to the ATP sandbox when you have news.

While it is not a plant, people do grow them so I think the All Things Gardening forum might be appropriate.

I agree, Jay. Lots of people grow mushrooms and there are fungi that grow in the yard and garden than can be nuisances. Will there be interest in a "Fungi" forum? Only one way to tell. Shrug!

I think a fungi forum would be a good idea. They give the appearance of plants, people grow them, they a sign of healthy soil, they are used as compost for gardens, they help break down organic matter which improves the soil, they are use as food, and can add to the visual appeal of a garden. With all this in mind I think that even though it isn't a plant, it still fits in with the whole theme of gardening and this site.

Fungi usually have such a short live span and are so unpredictable on when or where they will return, I'm not sure a Forum dedicated to them would get a lot of traffic. I think, due to their function, they would be an appropriate topic in the All Things Gardening or Farming forums. Any place where discussions on things like mulch, Hugelfultur beds, lasagna beds, encouraging earthworms - all that sort of thing - is where fungi play a major role in conditioning the organic material into a useful and usable plant growing medium. I'd be really surprised if the Hugelfultur method would work at all without the fungi aiding in breaking down the woody material. They have a symbiotic relationship to plants that is undeniable.
