Does someone have a photo of a Monarch and one of it's caterpillar that I could use in my garden club newsletter? I've written a small blurb about the Monarch being the official insect of Texas. I thought I had a good pic of the Monarch, but can't seem to find it.

Edited: Found mine, won't need photos!

Oh wow, that's really great! I think October is supposed to be peak fall migration, so hopefully we'll see some!

Are they all on one plant? Will they have enough to eat?
Or do you have a whole garden?

Well...I have EGGS! Hurray!
Was on the phone and wandered out to check the largest Mexican Milkweed I have...and voila! Haven't seen a butterfly, but yesterday we were in town until late.

You never know...you might need the 4th plant to feed the cats that will probably completely strip the first 3 plants!

The organization, Monarch Watch, says the drought in Texas will make it even more difficult for the Monarchs to find food sources on their migration this year. I'm thrilled to see those cats there! Hurray! Big Grin

Hopefully, Texas gardeners are at least trying to provide blooming plants. Some parts of Texas don't yet have water restrictions, so it is easier there. The rest of us have to do the best we can with water restrictions. One lady I know about had a well that ran dry. She just had to let the garden go dry for quite some time and most of the plants died. For us, with Stage 3 water restrictions, we have one day a week to do hand-held watering and another day a week to water with sprinklers or automatic systems. I'm thrilled to see the cats too!

We're about to enter stage 3 too. We had cats at the lake on Rue. The plant hardly gets any water, deer don't like it, and it never gets more than about 6-8" high. I can't seem to grow it here. Too much care maybe?

My latitude is 36 so the migration is coming to an end here. I saw 1 or 2 (or maybe the same one twice) adults and found 1 cat on my Asclepias several weeks ago. Blinking

Article in the Austin paper about the Monarchs. I'm still hopeful that we'll see some coming through here with next cool front.

I hope you do as well.

My hummingbirds should be headed that way soon too, if they haven't already left. I saw them day before yesterday but haven't noticed them since.
